April showers bring May flowers. So how about we date some flower-themed profiles in May?

This month we're going to focus on profiles without dates that have any name that is related to flowers. Here are some suggestions -- you can pick your own. Just click one of the links and change the name on WikiTree+

Violet (88) Rose (495)
Iris (36) Willow (1)
Daphne (16) Daisy (80)
Lilly (64)/Lily (58) Gladys (158)
Heather (67) Dahlia (2)/Dalia (2)
Blumenthal (6) Flores (12)
Flowers (43) Rosario (20)
Basil (28) Aaron (146)
Bud (51) Elmer (131)
Magnus (29) Florian (11)

Post an answer below telling us what you're working on, your struggles and success, or ideas for other names.

We meet every other Friday on Zoom at 4 pm EDT (2000 GMT). So we get three dates in May:

May 3 ~ May 17 ~ May 31

There are always people "dating" on the Friday Date Night Discord channel. Come visit to chat, get or give help, and celebrate those dating victories!

Flower-themed profiles completed:

  • Camellia
  • Magnolia
  • Willow
Thanks, Tommy!

Jasmine is a flower name. Also spelled Jazmin or Jazmine and various versions with Y, such as Yasmin.

Hi, Lana!

You -- or anyone reading this :-) -- can work on people with any of those name variations by clicking through one of the links I have up there in the original post and changing the name in the search text to one of those variations.

Have fun!!
Marigold, Holly, Poppy, Marguerite, Alyssa, Erica, Rosemary and Amaryllis, as I went to school with a girl named Amaryllis
Fantastic suggestions!

The one Willow profile was born after 1965, the original pm was still on trusted list so i made her manager and the profile is now fully private.

Thanks, S! That's perfect!
10 of the 28 Basil’s have been done so far.

Looks like enough Roses to go around and a few that need a LNAB also. Will work on some of those

Great idea, Patt!

If we can clear those + a few more, we'll hit 100,000 dated profiles since we started.

Hello Daters!

I added dates to an Azalea and a couple profiles named Poppy.  I will see what else I can do this weekend.  I also found a Poppy that is part  of an entire string of living profiles.  There is a profile manager though so i will be able to mark them as living.

I have chosen Magnolia.

I improved the profile of Florence ( Daisy) Hatton Dods

Added sources and a family photo.

Her father Thomas called her Dolly Daisy when she was a young child and the name Daisy stayed with her all of her life.

by M Ross G2G6 Pilot (744k points)
Thanks, M!! And love the background info, too. :-)
p.s. What a sweet picture on her profile!
Thanks Julie, I think the pic must have been taken in the spring of 1932 at the family farm/ property In Alton, Ontario, in the dancing in woods picture Daisy could be pregnant, later that year she had a stillborn child which was later attributed to a Rhesus incompatibility.

Which was not really understood at the time.

I improved the profile of my 1C 2R Lily Beatrice Richards

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Richards-15135

Added sources, and added a newspaper clipping image about her 1916 wedding.

The image is from a family collection not from an online source.

I'll work on the Irises.  I've done one so far and hit a dead end with one (possibly because her dates are recent enough to include living people... I'm not super familiar with UK searches yet so not sure if that's really the issue.)
by Jennifer Carter G2G1 (1.3k points)
Thanks, Jennifer -- some of these can definitely be tough to research,

If you think they could still be living, just pop over to the space page linked in the original post, and there are instructions on what to do with the profile. :-)

I'm not sure where to go... On one of my Irises I got a warning.  Any suggestions?

Warning: Check the data.

  1. Saving this profile will result in it becoming private, but it has no managers, making it an unadoptable orphan.
Hi Jennifer --

There's a little "decision tree" on the free-space page linked above on the original post: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:WikiTree_Friday_Date_Night#When_you_find_a_date_.28or_maybe_you_can.27t.29

Basically, you want to make sure you add [[Category: WikiTree Admin]] to the profile, and then you can click "save anyway" on the message you get about the profile becoming private, etc. If you could add a note to the biography letting me know that the person appears to still be living and why, that will help a lot. :-)

I work on that category and take care of the profiles for living people who don't have profile managers.

Thanks!!

Hi FNDaters. I've been working on the Buds.  They're almost always male nicknames, making them more of a challenge since their names on records are almost always different.  It's akin to trying to find a LNAB for a woman.
by Bill Feidt G2G6 Mach 5 (50.4k points)
Thanks, Bill! That can't be easy!!

I'm working on Violet . That was my material grandmother's name. Violet Rose Rouquier. Her sister Lily and their mom Rose.  I see 88 Violet's. So far not bad. I did Violet (Lonnquist) Peterson. Not bad. I add her parents also. Most of her 8 Sibling are aline. When their parents were down to their 4th child Violet, they had 3 other starting with the letter "V". The first Violet was Emma Violet Kathrine Morris. The whole family complete blank. I tried it but I didn't/y know where to start.  I didn't know if she was American or ?  On we go in-between its sunny 74 already so I am off to do some gardening and planting. Maybe later I  will tackle some more Violets.  GL everyone.
by Anne Fiordalisi G2G6 Mach 6 (62.5k points)

Thanks, Anne!!

p.s. Doesn't your last name also translate to a flower name?? laugh

I chose Holly to work on:

1. William Hollie Lewis (WikiTree+ Name was Holly Lewis) (1901-1962)

2. Holly Alvis - was determined to still be living, I was unsure what to do so I adopted the profile and privated it, also added the [[Wikitree Admin]] category since I saw that in this answer chain after I had adopted it.. lol.

Thanks, Marie -- I'll take a look at Holly Alvis and her siblings. It looks like maybe they should all be marked as living. :-)
Marie -- I was able to re-add the original profile manager, so you no longer have to manage this one, :-)
