Where is Carolina island?

I'm looking for a part called "Carolina island" as menioned in a profile for Ernst Ahlborn.  I have never heard of a port by this name and a google search does not bring up an answer as to which island the record is referring to.
It seems that during the 1750's there were very few ports available at the time.  I'm thinking this port was in the Charleston Harbour or similar, but I'm sure someone on here must know the answer.

Maybe it is a more general term and could refer to any of the islands off the Charleston coast.

There are multiple references to the Carolina Islands in tourism related information.

Also called the sea islands,

Is it possible he was heading for the Caroline Islands Wikipedia says there were German missions in the islands before 1885. Although the 1750s seems a bit early. It is a shame there is no image of the record available.

Thanks to your interest M Ross and Trevor.  I am finding morethat mention fairly lage number of German immigrants around this time, and the Caroline Islands you mention were possibly the place, given Charlestown was less known (founded in 1670) and  that the islands around it James, John, Sullivan were better known.  Even Charlestown is on an islet.

This area and immigration looks like a One Place Study waiting for me to write it.  after I aske the question, (as it usually happpens) I discovered many documents and writings about the early settlement there.

So, the Sea Captain's just grouped the whole area into the words "Carolina Islands", it doth appear.

I do not know a specific island with that name. However, it is written in parentheses, so it makes me think he was immigrating to “Carolina” in general, which was a common way to say that. The island part is… unclear to say the least! lol. A lot of folks would land in Charleston then go up to Wilmington. A very large German population went to the counties around Winston-Salem (tho it was also settled from PA via the Great Wagon Road. ) my bet is your “island” would be near Wilmington.
