Information on J Covey who is buried at Andersonville Cemetery?

He was private in Illinois 99th. Believed to have died in prison early August 1864. My 2nd Great Grandfather fought in that regiment, Kingsbury B. Covey (James 1803, Kingsbury 1775, James 1715, James 1687, Hope 1660, James? of Braintree)

Sorry, but I do not think your ancestor was at Andersonville.

There is a grave for J Covey, died 4 Aug. 1864, at Andersonville National. Grave 4683.  Find a Grave Memorial 51153139. (Find a Grave lists him as J Covey). That grave was registered as J Covey, Pvt. 38th ILL. INF.

Andersonville records list him as: Carey, Joseph L. Alternate spelling Covey.  Private, Company A, 38th Illinois Infantry. Captured at Chickamauga. Died of scurvy, 4 Aug 1864.

Illinois Adjutant General roster records list Joseph L Carey, Co. A, 38th. Captured at Chickamauga. Died at Andersonville.

I doubt the FAG Memorial for J Covey is your ancestor if his surname was Covey.

The Illinois Adjutant General roster records list a James Covey, Residence Pittsfield, Pike County. Born at Washington County, Ohio. Private. Enlisted in Co. A, 99th Illinois Infantry.  Transferred to Company D, 99th. Mustered out of service on 31 July 1865, at Baton Rouge, LA.

Age 18. Height: 5' 5". Hair: dark. Eyes: blue. Complexion: light. Marital status: single. Farmer. Enlisted on 5 Aug 1862, at Pittsfield.

James Covey of Co. A then Co. D, 99th must be who you are looking for.  There is a Kingsbury Covey also in Company D, 99th Illinois Infantry. Age 23, Height 5' 7". Eyes: light. Hair: dark. Complexion: dark. Farmer. Born at Marietta, Ohio. Enlisted at Pittsfield on 26 Jul 1862.
