Hello Tommy,

I can see you are good with the math, so regarding :-

Profiles Added Year-To-Date

  • 1,387,593 profiles added since 1 Jan 2024
    • 12,171.87 profiles per day added (114 days)

what would be the profiles per day minus those 6 days of 'Connect-a-Thon', and so what is the additional average of the 6 'Connect-a-Thon' days?

98,937 profiles were added in the January CAT

88,908 profiles were added in the April CAT

a total of 187,845 profiles added in 6 days

Allan, the profiles added year-to-date has been recalculated.

The April CAT started with 37,805,143 profiles on WikiTree and ended with 37,916,697 profiles on WikiTree for a difference of 111,554 profiles.

The 111,554 profiles minus the 88,908 profiles created as part of the CAT is 22,646 profiles created by non CAT participants.

Jan CAT - Jan 19th to Jan 22nd

Apr CAT - Apr 12th to Apr 15th

Note:  The last million did not contain the January CAT. So, one million minus the 111,554 profiles created during the April CAT is 888,446 profiles divided by 83 days (instead of 86) is 10,704.17 profiles per day created. So, 10,704.17 profiles time 86 days equals 920,558.62 profiles created on an average day.  So, 1,000,000 profiles minus the 920,558 profiles equals the additional profiles created by the April CAT which is 79,442 profiles.  The 79,442 profiles divided by 3 days is 26,480 additional profiles created on average during the three April CAT days.
Tommy,

I get a figure of just over 20,000 additional profiles added each day during a CAT over and above of what is normally added.
Tommy,

The reason i asked was that i wanted to put into perspective the significance of CAT's in adding new profiles to Wikitree.
Yes, but you also have to take into account the decrease in profiles being created which effects the average day figure due to CAT cleanup. That figure hasn't been determined.
We've surpassed the population of Morocco and on our way to surpass the population of Canada.

In case it's helpful, WikiTree Plus has visualizations for the # of total profiles under the Database Dump section at the bottom.

Edit: I haven't noticed much a dip following CaT/SaT, but rather a slump as we approach the next one. I assume this is some folks "prepping" and setting some aside.
Just curious as to why there are no stats for 3,000 or 4,000 connections?
Hello David,

Badges are provided for 1,000 : 2,000 : 5,000 and 10,000 connections, i see that you have the 1,000 and 2,000 connection badges like myself.

If you click on the 2,000 badge itself, you will see that currently there are 7,369 members with that accolade.

It's part of the 1,2,5,10,20,50 sequence, like coins and banknotes, so in the UK (as far as i know) there are no £3 and £4 bank notes.

edit: I forgot there was the 'thruppenny bit' which pre-decimal was 1/4 of a shilling - aah the good old days.

This is awesome! I just received my 2,000 Connections badge during the Thon. I worked on my CC7 this last Thon and added 421 to my CC7 total to push me over the 2,000 mark.

Well done, Shonda, being in the Top 10,000 Wikitreers.

Thx, Tommy, after reading this informative post I looked on my profile and discovered that I’m another new 2000 CC7er. You helped put this in perspective.

Way to go. Of the last million, I have created 2,855 profiles:

pgslekt=> select count(*) from wtcode where created_at > '2024-01-28';
count
-------
 2855
(1 row)

How do you do such a query?  It doesn't look like Wikitree+.
It is from my own database, where I have a table called "wtcode" that stores references between my own internal ids and the Wikitree ids. Every time I run my Wikibio report tool to create a new biography it will prompt me for the Wiki id, and append a new row to this table. It will propose the LNAB part automatically, and I normally only have to append the digits.

Tommy, thank you for the very interesting statistics. Since I've been around since 2016, I can personally attest to how WikiTree has grown. It's just amazing and still the best place on the internet for genealogy geeks like me! Thanks for giving us those fabulous numbers!

Awesome job all, i feel like its getting easier to find connections in the area of England i tend to work in now. Looks like 40 million will be achievable by the end of the year :)

Hi Tommy

1,100,820+ members

Is there any way to measure the 'active' members that have been active in the last year?

by Margreet Beers G2G6 Pilot (153k points)
I'd be more interested in that, than in the million+ "members,"  many of whom haven't been active in years.
Probably less than 10,000.
