New App Idea for managing Watchlist?

SOLVED

I've tried to search if this idea already has been dropped, but I can't find it. And I know I should/could use the bulk list feature (but I struggle using it the way I want to use it), so I end up doing it manually or maybe someone can create an app for it.

My wish is to limit my watchlist to my own family line or to whom I related to but within 5 degrees.

At this moment I have almost 4.600 profiles on my watchlist and I need to bring it back to a managable list. But I also think it would help teams if you can use an app to manage watch lists, so maybe one of you 'app-builders' can dive into this request.

Could you please clarify what exactly you mean by this? One interpretation is: Remove from my watchlist, anyone who is not in my CC5, unless they are my direct ancestor.  Is that what you meant?

Yes, that's what I mean.

I don't want to monitor all kind of persons who I'm not related to. But maybe I want to select CC7.

You might want watch this video and maybe this one as well. It might be that this WBE feature might already get you to some 80% of your wish.

Wowww Florian,

I have used the WBE feature for a long time, but never discovered this option. And it's great explaining this via a video. So much easier than reading it. And the best part, this doesn't require translations and is handy in all languages.

The only thing now that is needed is, to be able to remove myself as Profile Manager (or from the trusted list)

But the removing part is also explained in the first video, isn't it?

Sorry Florian, I was wrong. I see the extra button now.

I can indeed remove them using this facility. So please ignore what I've typed below.

Yes, but as I also mentioned, you have to do it by clicking each profile separately. And I need to do a controled bulk orphaning.

This sounds like a fun project - I would be happy to work on it, but I cannot do so immediately, so if there is someone else who wants to grab it and go, please proceed. smiley However, if no one else shows up, I will start woking on it in about a week, or 2 at the most.

Hello Riël,

I am really pleased that you say that, because when i made enquiries about 6 months ago i was informed that it was not a possibility.

I wanted to remove myself from all the profiles where i had been the PM but was no longer so.

Also, i understand that it is not possible to have it as a Text search in Wikitree Plus.
I would love this (and I'm handling this big watchlist for a very long time, so I guess I can wait for two weeks ;-) )

Although it's maybe a good idea to built in some checks, for instance to check if the profile contains at least a bio and sources before you're allowed to abandon them.

Oh, you'll wait for more than 2 weeks. That's only when I would be able to start - who knows how long it would be for me to figure out how to do it (if it is possible at all) and then to actually do it. laugh  I'm not Ian Beacall who churn these things out in their sleep angel

Don’t worry. I just hope someone will and can pick up this idea. Because it would really help. Just as all the good initiatives of all the other well willing members who are trying to make WT better and easier.

I think Aleš has answered this here: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1708505/watchlist-bloat-is-there-a-solution#a1714458

At least, that will give you those who are close to you.

Hi Ian,

I know how I can find them (and monitor them), but I can't use any of that on the Bulktool list. And to my idea that could be benificiary for Orphaning the profiles (after making sure that you've sourced them correctly). So maybe it could even be an addition to the Bio-App.
Hi Ian,

Sorry to disturb you, but could it be that a certain run or update is needed before the last fields (degree, relation and suggestion) are containing data? I only have data for the profiles I created after turning the extra fields on.
Margreet: I'm not quite sure  what you're talking about, to be honest.  Would it be better to explain on Discord?

I am overwhelmed by the difficulty of managing the watch list. If I could sort it by time (ie most recently added) then when I added a lot of people I'm not interested in continuing with I could easily orphan them all. Trying to tease them out of an alphabetical list is torture.

Click on edit date in the last column on the right, you can sort by most recent edit or or oldest edit date.
Look at the answer of Florian and the second video is giving you a whole new ‘world of possibilities’ in the watchlist. You need to activate it in WBE but it’s fantastic what Ian (and other app builders) are doing to make life a lot easier.
