What's an (Em'ee) Occupation?

Looking for namesakes in various census records, like this:

https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5b91b323f4040b176c9b6e7e/george-macdonald-1891-somerset-bath-1841-?locale=en

Some of the Occupations are suffixed (Em'ee)- any ideas what that means?

I would guess it is short for Employee.

Em'er would be Employer.

It comes from two columns on the census page. Here is a link to a free to view image of that page: https://mediasvc.ancestry.com/v2/image/namespaces/6598/media/SOMRG12_1934_1936-0173.png?securityToken=xw01b72698efa8d7fbe3a8ac259ae0f359e9313f7a99db0000
