why is a 1st spouse not mentioned as ex-wife, but as wife?

The date of separation was given (aprox.) but nevertheless it looks like there's two wives now.

So the question is a general one, not for one specific profile per se.

They were married at some point, so yes, it will still look as though there are two wives.  However, it will say something like "married 30 September 1869 (to 1872)".

Of course, you can put additional info in the bio as well.

That's only when looked slightly more in detail. Actually in the tree appearance it looks like this:

- Husband of name so and so

- Husband of other name such and such

Especially for people still living, I think it would be more respectful if it could be something like:

- ex-husband of name so and so

- Husband of other name such and such

Ludo, if you don't like ex-spouses appearing as though still married - you can hide the relationship.  I do that with my parents, because my mother would coalesce her ashes and come back to haunt me if she showed as "wife of" her ex husband.
