The Search page is not working correctly.

When I search for Clemence John Pye, I get entries starting with John first. (151 entries are returned, with only exact last name matches selected)

When I search for Clemence Pye only, I get one entry returned.

The Search results should show the entries starting with the first name first.

Edited:  I tried exact match on Clemence John Pye and that doesn't work either. The Search gives me entries it SHOULD NOT give me.

The search treats all names entered into the "First Name" box equally -- it doesn't rank them based on the order you enter them, and will return matches with either John or Clemence in one of the non-last name fields.

Which is actually good for countries where there are no "first names" but "given names" and any of the many given names can be taken as "call name".

Sorry, but I still don't understand how search is working.

I enter John David Smith and I get [[Smith-269952 | Ian McLaurin Smith (1909-1989)]].

Why am I getting this entry? Is someone claiming that Ian and McLaurin are variants for John and/or David?

Yes, it looks as if Ian and John are considered variants, judging by what you get if you just search for Ian Smith.
