  • Added support for Name's gender returned in JSON format for use in the WBE. https://plus.wikitree.com/function/WTWebNameDistribution/Names.json?FirstName=Ale%C5%A1&format=json
  • While doing that Ian pointed out some problems and I changed the gender function to make it work better. The change was to ignore profiles without gender in the process. Back in 2016 I assumed that all profiles will get the gender eventually but that was not the case on the private profiles so Hellen was set as unisex which is not correct. As a result there will be big changes in gender 500-510 suggestions. 7000 new ones and 50000 changed the suggestion number.
  • I prepared the thon suggestions here Automated:DD Suggestion List Challenge 319 ConnectAThon202402. they contain only the profiles created on the first day. Next week all will be included.
  • To search for profiles created in the thon on WikiTree+ use profilelist="connectathon/202402" . This week it will return only profiles created in the first half of the thon, next week it will return all.

Thank you for the sql examples added to the help page for Wikitree+! When I first tried to run my query, I was making the string too complicated and not getting the results I wanted, but after reviewing the examples, I had success. Very helpful!!

I am not sure what the change was for with gender, but every one of the new suggestions that I have looked at is False because the gender is correct.

Linda, you know that without any example I really can't comment what you wrote.
Are you saying that names like Elliot and Stewart are female names? According to the WT+ stats they are over 95% male names.

https://plus.wikitree.com/default.htm?report=ana1&FirstName=Stewart&MaxNames=500

If they are indeed female names, mark them as false suggestions.
Many Scottish females were named with what have become modern male names.  It is wrong to presume a name is definitively male because a large percentage are such now.   Christian is predominantly a male name, but in Scotland it was frequently given to females.  Glenn is predominantly a male name, but tell that to actress Glenn Close.

This can be seen also from the stats and the suggestion has Probably in it.
Warning 503: Probably wrong gender (male)

Suggestion Warning 501: Wrong gender (male) has no probably in it and is used with names where gender is 98 or 99% the same.

Maybe these suggestions should not be generated for profiles where "Scotland" appears in a location field. Dealing with false suggestions is a burden on profile managers, and they also risk someone who is unaware "correcting" them by changing the gender to a wrong value.
It just seemed that 84K new gender suggestions this week seems like a large number that had not been addressed before. I had seen several Alexis that I have never seen as male, so was just marking them all as false, verifying they were all female. Taylor is being questioned as female and I suspect there are more Taylor as female than male. I will continue to mark false, but I have the same concern that people will change gender on profiles too easily, as I have already seen done.

There is only a few thousand "new" suggestions. Mostly they just shifted from one suggestion to another. Mostly from 509 Missing gender that dropped for 53K to missing male/female gender.

501 Wrong male gender 1.695 9.885 8.190
502 Missing male gender 24.219 60.418 36.199
503 Probably wrong male gender 1.982 12.210 10.228
504 Probably missing male gender −7.894 9.835 17.729
505 Wrong female gender 1.714 10.539 8.825
506 Missing female gender 40.096 68.222 28.126
507 Probably wrong female gender 1.172 7.801 6.629
508 Probably missing female gender −2.335 13.544 15.879
509 Missing gender −53.479 46.867 100.346
I only saw the new Column count and didn't see that some went lower.   It was a lot of new Suggestions for Scotland to get in one week when they had been cleared and with the large volumes generally, it seemed suspicious with the names being shown.
