How to fix Warning 945: Unused Span Anchors

Question

I have several on my suggestion list that have defied my ability to transition them to fixed, e.g. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ball-4357

which contains:

...<ref name=MassBC>[[#MassBC|Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915, database, FamilySearch]]</ref>...

<references />

...<span id='MassBC'></span>"Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915",...

I'm about to try changing the id on some other profiles to see what that does, or removing the span tag to see if it changes to a "missing span tag" suggestion, but it does not seem like I should be guessing.

add a tag for ales since he creates the suggestions.

Possibly it should be double quote, not single quote, in the span definition.

It seems the span anchors are there and work fine, but the checking does not recognise them because in the definition they have single quotes around them like <span id='MassBC'>, but in the call they do not #MassBC.

Removing the quotes in the definition should fix it.

I don't think that's it, e.g. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Mcintosh-2992 is not that way.
