Irish Marriage Record Frew / McCaig 1830

Hi,

I have my 4 x great grandparents James Frew Frew-156 and Agnes McCaig McCaig-61 marrying in 1830 Killinchy Ireland. This seems to be right as their 1st child was born 1832 but I I've searched Familysearch, Ancestry and the Irish Records / Genealogy site, any other ideas where I might find the marriage. I have the marriage record for James and his second wife - Ellen Dempsey in Scotland, but cannot for the life of me find the record for James and Agnes.

thanks

Hello and thank you for your post Elayine

Tonight I looked through your research in regards to James and also reviewed some sources on ancestry but was shocked to see that there is a total of 245 trees available to view but few with sourcing,    Earlier in genealogy days I had looked at your James to see exactly where he came from and did have the second marriage of James to Ellen Dempsey 1857 Waterside, Dalmellington dowloaded to my Frew Families.

James gives his parents as

James Frew, farmer and  Agnes (maiden surname) Kean

These were Protestant Banns according to the Forms of the Free Church of Scotland.  James is noted as a widower and a ploughman.

Witnessed by James Paterson and Thomas McLellan

1857 FREW, JAMES (Statutory registers Marriages 586/ 21)

Records for the

Frew families in Dalmellington can be accessed through scotlandspeople website.   Dalmellington a very small hamlet and has a remarkable amount of sources available to view or download.    Wishing the best,  If you would like I could download this image to your files.   Linda

Thank you Linda, you have been very helpful to me. I am so please with what you have found. I'll look into the details and hopefully can confirm the names. Good to know Dalmellington is small, that should help too.

Good afternoon to you, one of the best resources I use for Ireland is the Church Census Records. These can be found at www.emeraldancestors.com/northern-ireland-ancestor-search

Also it may benefit having a look at the name variations, e.g. normally females with the name of Agnes are usually known as Nancy (and quite often it’s the variant that is used on documents).

Also McCaig could also be a variant of McKaig or McKeag.

Also you could contact the Killinchy Presbyterian Church directly to ascertain what records they have.

Their Phone number is 028 9754 3377

Email address is killinchyoffice@gmail.com

I hope this is beneficial, yours sincerely

Thank you so much. I will indeed check out these contacts. I've never heard of the Church Census Records, I look forward to trying them out
