How Many Open Tabs?

Question

How many tabs do you guys find yourself opening at a time while doing deep research? 

I must have had 20 tabs open on three separate windows while attempting to break through a brick wall yesterday.

Is it only me?!?

That top image is probably fairly close - for one browser.  I have 28 tabs open in this window alone, then there are the other 6 windows on this browser.  I don't think I want to count the number of open research tabs I have open on my other browser's 7 windows.

Hahaha I wish there was a better way sometimes, I have even tried copying the links to the tabs and pasting them into a word document in order to save my place/thoughts but it never really reduces the tab city I continuously seem to be building.

I have done the same thing.  I now have at least 3 multiple page text documents just for links - plus all the pages I mark as "favourite" but never seem to go back to.  sigh

I currently have 12 open, yikes. And that's on my upstairs computer. Probably another 6 on my basement computer.

Upstairs I'm working on my One-Place Study, and I have FamilySearch, Find-a-Grave, BLM land patents, and WT, including WT+. One WT page is permanently open to a profile with a sticker text highlighted so I can just copy it into new profiles I create.

Downstairs I'm transcribing some African-American records from National Archives, so two pages there, FamilySearch and WT. Find-a-grave isn't very useful on African-Americans of that time period.

I don't work on both in the same day. Typically I spend a few weeks on one project, then move over to the other project, so I keep all the tabs open so I don't forget where I was at.

I knew it wasn't just me! And what about your smart phone, you know, for those times a thought pops into your head about a potential great place to search for something and you don't wanna forget it! 

I like your setup.. I might just be taking notes

I should really try harder and not let myself get off on these side quests! I was trying to find a shipping manafest of passenger list for a person from the early 1800's, but he was a Shipmaster, so I had a bazillion links open about shipmasters, trades, different types of jobs and how they differed between areas, then I was searching directories to try to find the name of the person, then different directories to find the name of the ship, then soooo many sites specific to Maritime History!

At least it's fun and there is always something to learn!!

I like to think our minds sometimes go faster than we can process so we have to continually "hold that thought" in the form of a tab

I would say that you must be much more organized and less prone to distraction!

I have two computers, (my wife's is on the left) each with two monitors! then I have two note books, not pictured, sitting on the chargers...it gets really crazy here! with open tabs

My computer is too old and in need of replacing so I tend to do genealogy research on my iPad. Within Safari, I try to keep it to a maximum of 30 tabs open at a time. Right now I have 22 open for various things I’m working on (ONS, OPS, Trans-Canada Trail guide stuff & profiles my travellers are working on, G2G, Ancestry, etc)

I really wish there were, or someone would come up with a wikitree app for this! What that would look like or involve, I have no idea...
