We are using the Atkinson Name Study on WikiTree to reach out to all interested in Atkinson Genealogy to promote collaborative work on the Atkinson Surname , with an associated DNA Atkinson Project at FTDNA . We are leveraging the tools available to help us at both WikiTree and at FTDNA.
I am the Atkinson Project Admin. for the Atkinson Project at FTDNA and the Atkinson Name Study Coordinator here on WikiTree. We are trying to untangle Atkinson lines to see which Atkinsons are related within a 'genealogical surname timeframe'. My EKA is Atkinson-763, a Quaker. The development of the Atkinson projects is a work in progress. We are at early stages. I look forward to collaborating with interested researchers. I hope you will join us!
Y-DNA is passed only from genetic father to son over generations, with few changes. Y-DNA testing will be a key to untangling Atkinson lines. At the FTDNA Atkinson Project we are grouping Y-DNA Atkinson DNA testers into Matched Groups of testers in the project that likely share a common ancestor within the 'genealogical surname timeframe'. We already learned there are multiple unrelated Atkinson lines in genealogical timeframe. We need you to y-Test and join the Atkinson Project to help sort this out.
REQUEST:Are you are a genetic male with Atkinson surname and have not yet y-DNA tested? Would you be willing to do a y-DNA test at FTDNA (currently the only place to Y-DNA test) and join our Atkinson Project? You would also be welcome to join with an autosomal DNA test (either from FTDNA, or upload your results from another test site). I am encouraging all FTDNA Atkinson Project participants to also use WikiTree for collaboration on genealogy.
