Irish Quaker Hendersons

The new space The Quaker Henderson Family of Dunglady describes this family and some of the problems in the representation of its members on Wikitree.

Katherine Henderson, the matriarch and a Quaker minister for 45 years, does not appear, or at least not in the right place.

William Henderson-17783 is shown as both the father of children including Sarah Henderson-9356 and as the person who was disowned by the Quakers in 1718. In fact these were two different people, possibly father and son. The elder William died in 1696 or 1697 and should, together with his wife Katherine, have other children as well as those shown. The younger was originally a minister and ended up emigrating to Pennsylvania in 1729.

Patrick Henderson-19452 was probably born a little earlier than shown. He was a minister, the author of a Quaker tract and went on a ministerial visit to Pennsylvania in 1707 and 1708. He had more children than currently shown including a Thomas who emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1743 and was '3d Son to our late Friend Pattk Henderson who left a great Family of Children behind'.

Margaret Henderson-1303 wife of Gayen Miller-5638 may not have been a Henderson at all - there appears to be no firm evidence. If she was one, she was probably the daughter of the elder William and Katherine Henderson, who lived in the same parish as the Millers in county Londonderry.

Patrick Henderson-1305 is shown as both the minister/author of the tract discussed above (ie Patrick Henderson-19452) and the father of Margaret Henderson-1303 above. This is not possible. Patrick Henderson the minister was still a young man when visiting Pennsylvania in 1707; he could not have been the father of a woman who had married in 1693. Nor did Patrick Henderson the minister have a wife Katherine Henderson Unknown-546263. Katherine Henderson was his mother, not his wife. Nor could he have died in 1702 since he visited Pennsylvania in 1707 (and in fact carried on until c 1741).

Some points remain unclear. For example was the younger William Henderson really the son of the elder? Then there are two Mary Hendersons mentioned who plainly could not have been sisters. The younger was described as a daughter of William Henderson and may or may not have been a grandchild of the first couple.

I would welcome comments on all of this.

I have added specific comments and a link to the space discussing the family on all the profiles concerned. I plan to start amending the profiles in say 1 week's time after reviewing comments that I receive in the mean time.
