I have posted this comment on the Ireland Project Categories Team page:

We have now several HMCG Stations in Ireeland on the Category: HM Coastguard Stations page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:HM_Coastguard_Stations. Both Irish and English nationals served at these stations, so we now require a category for Ireland Occupations, Coast guards. Can this category be added to the Ireland Occupation page and to the Category: HM Coastguard page at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:HM_Coastguard?

As a couple of Coastguard Boatmen served at Scottish CG Stations, we need the same additions to the Scottish Occupations set of pages.

closed with the note: Ther categories now exist and are populated.  Many thatnks to all.

Categories are normally not created unless there is a profile to be added to the category because they do not want empty categories created
There ar profiles to be added to both Ireland and Scotland from in among the 50 odd profiles of Coiastguard Boatmen
My great grandfather (English) worked in Ireland as a coastguard.  In fact, he and his family were enumerated there on the 1901 census.
If he is on the England Coastguards list, he will be categorised as soon as the Irish page is avalable.
I have put him in the Ireland, Coast guards category, since (although English) he worked in Ireland.  He was not in the England, Coastguards list since that is for coastguards who worked in England (and he didn't).

Since all the other categories have "Coastguards" (one word), perhaps the Ireland one needs correcting?

Very basic but [[Category: Ireland, Coast guards]] has been created

Think it needs amending to Ireland, Coastguards (just one word rather than two).
Good oh! This category is now populared with 7 profiles.

Scotland, of which there are just 2 is populated, but the Categorisation tool does not recognise the category, I had to edit in by hand.

Category Scotland, Coastguards has now been created as a sub-cat of both HM Coastguard and Scotland, Occupations.

I note that the HM Coastguard category doesn't "belong" to either the occupations category or to any military category although it's managed by the military and war project - should it be linked to either of them?

Scotland, of which there are just 2 profiles, is populated, but the Categorisation tool does not recognise the category, I had to edit in by hand.

I've found that it takes a while (? a day) for the various drop-down lists to populate with new cats - maybe a tech person can confirm?
I suppose that it depends on how busy the website may be.  The new Ireland Occupation addition was nearly instantaneous..  Still I completed the categorisation of those two profiles, so it ios over to the maintainece techies now.
