The US Black Heritage Project is dedicated to working on profiles for those enslaved in the U.S. across all times in history, the descendants of those slaves, as well as Americans of African descent.

We are committed to adding, connecting, and honoring members of the African-American community, as well as, welcoming new WikiTree members and helping them to connect to their ancestors.

To join the project:

  1. You've signed the Honor Code and fully embrace the philosophy of collaboration
  2. You've been a WikiTree member for at least one month
  3. You are comfortable adhering to best practices for genealogy research
  4. You have built your sourced family tree through to your grandparents

**Answer below**  and add one or two profiles that show you are familiar with our basic skills requirements. Tell us which project team(s) you are most interested doing work in.

Not ready to join but want to help? Go to this task page. Please add the African-American sticker to all of your profiles from this community. This helps us honor them and allows us to watch the number of profiles grow. {{African-American Sticker}}

Please also Follow the black_heritage tag and watch for posts from us asking for help on specific tasks and projects.

Thanks so much and we look forward to working with you!

Yes - I would like to help. I am in the Zoom with Denise Jarrett  right now and learning a lot. I consider myself a beginner. I am eager to help particularly because my Lee and other ancestors were enslavers. I may have documents that would shed light on African American's families.

That's great Mary. Denise is wonderful! Just follow the instructions in the post. If you prefer to PM me with the following, that's fine.

-Look through our project teams and share one or two teams you'd like to collaborate on.

-Link the URL of one or two profiles that show you are familiar with the Basic Skills we require.

We look forward to working with you.

Hi, I think I answered this a few weeks ago, but had not received a badge. I just realized I had not filled out the new member form, which is now done.

I would like to be part of a New York Team when it gets formed, and I will build 1880 Census profiles for NY counties.

Thanks, John

Hi John, Thanks for filling out the form. After we review your form, you'll receive a badge. We look forward to having another New York representative! We don't currently have a NY team but that is under consideration as a few other NY'ers are interested.
Thank You Gina, look forward to seeing more New Yorkers!
Hi John, you now have the badge. Will be sending you a welcome letter in the next day or two.

Hello:  I am very interested in this project.  I am building the African American community of Vermilion, and Lafayette parishes of SW Louisiana as they relate and connect through DNA with my family heritage.  Two of many  profiles which I have worked on and connected to me genetically are:  [[Granger-4375|Carmesile Granger]] and [[Duhon-805|Alexandre Duhon]].  Since connecting these two relatives, I have utilized the sticker on all profiles as I build the tree.  I look forward to working to grow and  improve the African American profiles of SW Louisiana on Wiki.  Look forward to hearing from you.  Ray Landry

I'd love to officially join the Black Heritage Project, please. I have been adding the African American Sticker to my profiles for a little while now!

I'd like to collaborate with the Sourcerers!

Here are two profiles I've done: Hill-61178 & Dartis-2
