What is required to consider a person as notable?

I started the Kenyon One-Name Study in 2023. The study has a Notable Category for Kenyons who are already identified as notable on WikiTree, listed on Wikipedia as notable, and/or Kenyon individuals who have come to my attention as notable in one way or another.

My question: For those Kenyon individuals who are not already listed as Notable on WikiTree, how do I get an opinion as to whether some of them would qualify? (definite yes, maybe, no way)

Here is a list of those I would like someone to look at:

1. John Kenyon, Esquire, Jamaican/English Philanthropist

2. William Kenyon Liverpool Clockmaker

3. John Joseph Kenyon Canadia Artist Photographer

4.James Harold Kenyon British Pioneer Funeral Profession

5. Samuel P Kenyon Congressional Medal of Honor

If any of these meet the criteria of Notable, what steps do I need to take?

Thanks for your time,

Marilyn Kenyon

It's easy.

 • the notable person is at least 18 years old, and
 • there is a Wikipedia article about them, thereby showing that they meet Wikipedia's guidelines for notability, or they appear in a national (official) biography database, and
 • the Wikipedia article includes information about at least one nuclear family member (spouse, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, sibling, niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, or first cousin), and
 • we are not aware that the notable person would prefer to keep the information we are putting on WikiTree private.
Eligibility requirements for Living Notables are slightly different.

Thank you. That helps. It looks like several of them qualify. What next? Do I add the notable sticker to their profile?

Ros, what you have quoted actually seems to be the eligibility criterion for notability of living people. See

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Living_Notables#Eligibility_for_Living_Notable_Status

For people who are no longer living, only the second bullet point is required to be notable on WikiTree.

The list I gave was *adapted* from the list of eligibility requirements for Living Notables.  For deceased Notables, it can be either a WP article OR a national biography; for living notables it is WP only.   For Living Notables, it includes the requirement of being in three languages; for deceased notables, this language requirement is not needed.
Deceased Notables don't require the nuclear family criteria, only the Wikipedia/National Dictionary of Biography.

For a deceased Notables you should add this sticker near the top of the profile ...

Notables Sticker

Under sources, you also have to add a link to the wikipedia page - and the wikidata # which you can get from the wikipedia page by clicking on TOOLS near the top right and going down to where it says wikidata.

Below is an example of the template that Ales has made for us to use.

For Notables wikitree profile Kenyon-1215 ...

* Q6255122 for John Robert Kenyon (1807-1880)

This will show up with the wikipedia links ...

Wikidata: Item Q6255122, en:Wikipedia help.gif

Thank you.

I think I have it now. I've added the Notables Sticker on a few of the Kenyon profiles with Wikipedia pages.

I'm not sure where to put the Wikidata sticker. I played around with it in a couple of places. Then, put it with sources.

It's nice to get these profiles recognized!
Wikipedia link and Wikidata item are meant to be beneath the Sources header under a "see also".

Sources
<references />

See also:
* Wikipedia: John Hurt
*Q200405

The Wikipedia link name should be exactly as it shows in the url.
Thanks!

Hey Marilyn, I have a James Kenyon in Liverpool who was a clockmaker. I'm assuming Will the Clockmaker is James'  father; as they are both clockmakers. James' son, Will, died in 1719 (see below).  Will the clockmaker's wife, Ellin, died June 17, 1723. His daughter Briget died 10/6/1721. Will "the clockmaker" died 3/31/1730 in Liverpool.  No ages given.

I have documented some of the children of James Kenyon who died. 1) Will (5/1719), Ellen (1/1720), John (10/1721), Eliza (6/1723), Sarah (8/1723), John (9/8/1726), James Jr (4/5/1727). They were all members of the Church of England (not the Society of Friends).

I see that James Kenyon was listed as freeman of Liverpool 10/17/1711.  He was imprisoned in Lancaster, insolvent debtor, 7/22/1741 and was released from gaol 7/12/1743.

Photographs of grandfather clocks made by James Kenyon can be found online.

Oh! This is new to me. I've seen the clocks by William Kenyon and Richard Kenyon of Liverpool. This is the first I've seen of the grandfather clock by James Kenyon. I am assuming they are all the same family. Very good!
