Some of you noted, a year ago, that Ancestry had announced it was shutting down Worldconnnect on Rootsweb and planned to migrate the trees to free-access on Ancestry.com. At this point it has shut down Worldconnect and is promising that the trees will appear at Ancestry in "early" 2024. As near as I can determine that hasn't happened yet. I am wondering if it ever will. When I started on Ancestry a long time ago, it promised folks that posted trees that their trees would be available to the public for free. Once it realized it could make more money charging people for access to posted trees, it changed its policy, but, in order to honor its promise, it put those trees that existed prior to the policy change up on rootsweb. Ancestry seems intent on stamping out free access to what it seems to regard as its property. Does anyone know what will become of the Worldconnect trees? For my own part, once Ancestry started charging for access to my tree and even modify it at their whim, I stopped posting there and, eventually, created my own site: www.rwoodesq.com .
