USBH 1880 Census Project--How are we doing? February 2024 Update

Oh my goodness, the outpouring of help with the USBH 1880 Census Project has simply blown us away! We currently have hundreds of people from all over the world creating profiles and the spreadsheets we need to do the work. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Each month, we will post an update about the progress made the previous month. This is also a great place to post when you have finished a county so we can celebrate together publicly.

As of March 3, 2024

 • States completed: 4 out of 47
 • Total Number of Counties to be completed: 2376
 • Total Number of Counties completed: 60
 • Percent of Counties completed: 3%
 • Total Population to be completed: 6,581,694
 • Total Population completed: 2,830
 • Percent of Population completed: 0.04%
 • Total number of USBH Profiles added in February (not just 1880 census): 16,621

Many more counties have been finished, but are in the checking stage, so not yet marked complete. We will update our statistics page about once a week if we are able, but at least once a month.

Because I like visuals, here is our progress to date. States with slashes have full lists of people on the spreadsheets with all counties accounted for.

We now have a Discord channel in the main WikiTree Discord server. If you are on Discord, join us there to talk about the 1880 census work.

In March, we will be focusing on Nebraska in collaboration with the Nebraska Project Challenge. With your help, I bet we can finish Nebraska this month!

Hot dog! Team Maine says get your marker ready to fill in New Hampshire! We'd like an autumn leaf color.

How do you eat an elephant?   One bite at a time!

Which Categories and stickers do you want specifically? example:

or would it just be .  And the stickers African-American Sticker and born in Georgia?  Thank you for the clarification.  I just want to make sure I'm doing it right!

Hi Terri, we aren't intentionally using the 1880 census categories for this project to keep things simple, although some people like to use those.

The location category we'd like people to use is  or better yet the town they were enumerated in. The more specific the category, the better.

Yes, please always add African-American Sticker if they were enumerated as Black or Mulatto.

born in Georgia is optional, but definitely sticker away if you are like me and love stickers :-)
