Locating Native American Portraits Across WikiTree

Charles Bird King and George Catlin were portrait painters who recorded images of early nineteenth century Native Americans and served as the prototype for Depression-Era photographers such as Dorthea Lange, Carl Mydans and their contemporaries at the Farm Security Administration.  Works by King and Catlin are spread across WikiTree, usually attached to the profile of an important Native American leader or chief.  Unfortunately, not all of these uploads are attached to a profile or titled in a way that makes them easily found.  Compounding the issue, many have the privacy set to "Public" and are closed for update.  Two pages are offered below where these portraits may be shared.  Please join me in locating any remaining ones already posted on WikiTree (or new additions of your own) and adding them to the collection.  Thank you for participating!

https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/user/Prentice-1539 I have a Pinterest page with hundreds of Native Amercan photos. I can't vouch for any copyright restrictions or conditions on any of the images but if you click on each or any of the images it may tell you about that sort of criterium.

My Pinterest page is William Laurence Maher with bio description Carpe Diem, Deus Et Mon Droit.

Have a nice day !!

Interesting project, Ronald. On the Wikipedia page for Osceola there is a portrait by George Catlin, but it is not yet on the WikiTree profile. Similar perhaps for Concomly, at Wikipedia and WikiTree; that portrait does appear on Catlin's Wikipedia page, although it does not seem certain he was the artist.

Thanks Jim!  I'll take a look.

I see what you're doing there... creating an online gallery using a space page.

BRAVO!

What a lovely way to honor artists!

Thanks for the comment Judi!  I've unfortunately discovered that not all of these image uploads are attached to a profile or titled in a way that makes them easily found.  Additionally, several of the images are set to "Public" and the title can't be edited.  My hope in grouping them together by artist is to make these images more accessible for those researching Native Americans of the period.
