Added a birth name and my ID automatically changed to a new merged ID with the birth name, not my current name.

Question

New to wikitree. I created a profile and had an ID with my current last name, ie Tillard-95. Went back and added a birth last name and a new ID was created and the two were merged automatically but my new id is now Annis-1005. But I want my ID with my current last name Tillard, not with the Birth name. Any way to fix this?

All profiles are required to use the Last Name at Birth (LNAB) as the profile name.  Your current last name will be searchable as well as the LNAB.

If the issue involves adoption you should search for Adoption or Adoption Angels.

If there was some other legal change of last name it can be explained in the Biography.

If there is some other issue, non public,  you will need advice from someone who knows more than I.

WikiTree IDs are always based on the last name at birth.

I share this frustration. While I understand why WikiTree is set up this way, I also would prefer not to have my LNAB as profile ID. Have not used this name for decades and it feels forced and awkward.
