My grandfather was married in 1924 in Gibson County Tennessee to Frances Taylor and in 1931, to my grandmother (Margie Hamilton) in St. Louis, Missouri. I have searched Ancestry, Family Search, and the Tennessee State Archives without success. I spoke to the Gibson County Circuit Court (where the record should be located as the Chancery Court did not start keeping divorce records until 1967) and the Circuit Clerk said that the only way they can search for the record is if I know the date. They were married in Gibson County, Tennessee on 8 Jan 1924. I found an enlistment record for Jim in 1927 indicating that he had one child and no persons depended on him for support. On the 1930 census, Jim is living in St. Louis with his family and is listed as single. Frances as well as Dallas (Jim and Frances's son) were living in Bolivar Mississippi. Frances's marital status is listed as "widowed".
I called the Circuit Court and the county clerk told me that they can not search for the divorce record unless I know the date. I do not even know if they ever got divorced. Any suggestions are appreciated.
