I assume you have a Y DNA test that gave you a possible surname, but have you or someone else examined your Ancestry DNA matches to determine who his parents were? You should treat this as a DNA adoption, eliminate the matches from your mother's side, and use the matches from your father's side to figure out who his parents were.

Order at least a Y-DNA37 test from Family Tree DNA.  If you are a close match with someone who has taken a Big Y test then upgrade to Big Y.
