Any members born or living in the State of Maine?

I would like to initiate communications with anyone on the WikiTree born or living in the State of Maine. Comment here or via a private message to me.

I am brand new to WT but not new to Maine genealogy. I was born in Portland in 1949, raised in South Portland and have lived in Maine most of my life, for the past 20+ years back in Portland. My ancestry is early Maine settlement, York County, Cumberland, County, Knox County and Washington County - especially the latter. I feel like most of my genealogy time is spent in Washington County. I will need some help learning the ropes here, but would love to volunteer for a Maine project. Please let me know what I can do and help me learn how to do it! Sue Tupper Gillmor

Welcome to Wiki Tree, Susan! There is a Maine Project found here:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Maine

Let me know if you need any help figuring it out. We would enjoy someone being able to focus on Washington County. Currently I have been working on a One Place Study of Somerset County.

James Paxton

I have no idea how to do this yet, but I'd love to help with Washington County. Three of my grandparents have multi-generations in that County and I seem to spend much of my genealogy time there. For the next couple of weeks I don't have as much free time to devote as usual, but generally I have a number of hours a day I devote to online research. I will need help learning the ropes on WT! Nice to meet you :-)

Hi George - I wasn't born there but did spend more than half my childhood at the family farm on Ohio St in Bangor or over in Brewer with my Dad's family.

Something I can help with?

Christopher, my genealogical interest are outlined on my personal profile. My inquiry “Any members born or living in the State of Maine?” is my attempt to initiate coordination of Maine related categories, free-space pages, and profiles. I have no particular WikiTree agenda regarding Maine, other than increasing its presence on the site.

Paula,

You will love it here!  I have been here almost a year in Jul... I have been on a research sojourn in my office! on my Gilchrist side of the family I had no idea there could possible be so many "John" Gilchrist's in one lineage!!  It's at is it is required to have at least one son named John and don't make it too easy for those of us that follow with middle names on birth certificates...!

We are a great group Paula

Welcome...

Hi George - I JUST started WT today so have no info entered, but I was born in Waterville and my father's family still lives there (Oakland/Waterville/Fairfield) where their grandparents orginally settled after immigrating from Quebec (Beauce.) My confirmed paternal family surnames are Poulin (Pooler), Chatigny and Cadoret so far. Like I said i just started entering my family info but wanted to say hi. I can't believe this website! It's so amazing!

Hi, Michelle,

Welcome to Wiki Tree, I have a lot of ancestors Surname "Fritz" on my fathers side.  My fathers grandfather was Jesse Perry JR from Millbridge Maine, and his great grandfather Jesse Perry Sr was from Steuben, Sullivan county, Main. and then his great great Henry Fritz some say he was born in Steuben while others say he was born in Germany.

We are so glad to have some one from Maine on board.  Maine changed hands so many times in the early years and was torn into pieces numerous times.

Welcome aboard you will love it here

It is going to take me a Very Long Time to learn the site, get everything uploaded and sourced correctly, etc.... it's all new to me. BUT once I do I will look forward to doing a bunch of work on Maine and especially immigrants from Quebec. I know some errors on Waterville's genealogy site have been corrected which is a huge help, but nothing would compare to a single tree - the name changes, name sharing and whatnot have made it kind of a mess. Having the one tree reference would be a big deal. I hope someday to be able to have a project just for the interloping francos. :)

I have not run across Fritz yet but I'm super familiar with all the Poolers and Poulins in Kennebec County now, trying to figure out who is mine. If you run across any of them we should be collaborating. I'm just amazed that NOT ONE SINGLE ONE of my father's family is on Wikitree, not a one! All new people. :)

Okay, back to learning how to edit the bio sources from GEDCOM. Ugh.
Michelle,

Sorry for the delay fighting Bronchitis. New names are constantly cropping up on WikiTree.

Hi George I was born in Saco ME but now reside in Las Vegas NV. However my relative own and operate the Raitt Homestead and Tractor Museum in Eliot ME. Not sure what you are looking for but my father passed and left me with all his research books on the Eliot/Kittery ME area so if you are looking for anyone in particular then maybe I can point you in the right direction. I myself am looking for any and all information on Capt. Alexander Raitt. He died in Jamaica 1776 of yellow fever. I'd like to find out what the name of his ship. I look forward to hearing from you.

Glenn, thank you for writing. My intent when I placed my above posting on G2G was to propose a coordinated effort by Mainers to have all Maine communities represented on the site with category pages that would be consistently constructed. Clearly, to date, I have failed in that attempt.

While intrigued by the historic details of your communication, my present workload strongly suggest I ought not make myself available for any additional projects, particularly projects requiring research. Presently, my WikiTree profile identifies the reason why my activity on this great wiki website have been temporarily curtailed.

Others in the ever helpful G2G community might be able to assist, if you reconstruct your comment to me and post it as a new query on G2G.

July 16, 2016: I am again on-line on the WikiTree almost daily.
