Researching possible black ancestor from Golding family

I have been (amateurishly) researching my family tree and have been trying to locate any details in regard to my 2 x great grandfather. The info I have from his merchant navy documentation says that he is a black man from St John, Nova Scotia, though I cannot find any trace of him. I have small DNA matches to people researching the Golding family.  Is there anyone that can give me advice on where to look or if there's evidence of George Frederick being a part of the Golding family anywhere. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Yes, that was my query, the newspaper article on my 2 x great grandfather was in the Hull Daily mail Sadly, I am no further along than that!

This is what is confusing me at the moment... Which Rebecca is this? the dates match Rebecca Ruth Golding  but I can't find any other details anywhere else

ok. It would be really helpful if you could add all the information and sources you already have to the profiles. No sense duplicating effort or findig the same deadends. I'll keep looking

Sorry, i'm not really clued up on how this works, i have all the information in Ancestry, apologies if it isn't the correct way to do this.

I'll do whatever I can smiley

The 1861 census would have been a great source to find the family living together, but it’s incomplete for New Brunswick. The Danville family doesn’t appear to be in this census.

Birth records for the 1851/1852 time period on New Brunswick are sporadic. Your best chance of finding proof that Frederick E. & Rebecca Golding are his parents is at the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. They have baptism records for many churches in Saint Johns. You will need to know the denomination of the church they attended. This was found on George Frederick’s father’s death certificate at FamilySearch. He was a member of the Church of England, i.e. the Anglican Church. The Archives has records for several churches in the city of Saint John that have baptisms for the years1851/1852. See page 19 of their research guide at https://archives.gnb.ca/Documents/CountyGuides/StJohn_en-CA.pdf
