This is NOT specific to your query but may get you to think about it in a different way.

My surname is Walker but I hit a Brick Wall in England in the 1830s when I could not find the marriage of my GGGF George Walker to Jane Done or Boden. I searched for nearly ten years on and off, but finally someone discovered  in the handwritten margins of some original BDM and Parish records, that George had CHANGED the family surname from Hervey/Harvey to Walker to avoid being labelled as a Bankrupt due to the debts of customers of his Wheelwright/Blacksmithing business. He had always previously paid his own debts but became unable to after his clients did not pay. It was sorted out in the Courts and published in a local newspaper.

Half his children were registered as Walker and half as Harvey, with all becoming Walker by the England 1851 Census. I would say "start looking in the margins"!
