Interesting... Anderson doesn't mention him in his Directory. I think his profile could use a better source for his military service (Ancient & Honorable Military Company in 1638-1639). If good documentation for that is found & cited, we can look at inclusion.

Thanks for noticing and drawing attention to him!

Thomas Huckins is listed in both Hollick and Colket.
Just added this to his profile - Thomas Huckins was the 6th signer of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery (originally called the Military Company of Massachusetts) In 1639-40 he was chosen Ensign. <ref>Bio in Cape Cod Library Library of Local History and Genealogy, Vol. I https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/9413404?mark=7b22746f6b656e223a2262443267475171466d342f583769364c71356a546170704459544e544a456e46447154356e622b44347a733d222c22746f6b656e5f76657273696f6e223a225632227d</ref>

Following the earlier comments:

  1. the cited publication in Hollick is MQ 50:80-86 but that does not mention this Thomas, only his son Thomas and that Thomas's daughter Hope.
  2. He is clearly listed (as Thomas Hucken) in the published Roll of the Artillery Company for 1637:
''Roll of Members of the Military Company of the Massachusetts: Now Called the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, with a Roster of the Commissioned Officers and Preachers, 1638-1894''. (Boston: Mudge & Son, 1895). [https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/idviewer/38973/14 Page 1].
  3. The Cape Cod Library of History and Genealogy volume 34 (1916) "Nicholas Snow of Eastham ..." page 18, says that he had a land grant at Barnstable on 14 September 1640, but does not seem to cite a source for this. The obvious place to find one one would be volume 105 (1912) "Barnstable Town Records" but this does not seem to have any mention of such a grant.

IF it can be documented that a person with that spelling of surname did receive a Barnstable grant in September 1640, THEN yes. However, as noted below Anderson does not include a "Thomas Huckens" in GMD, which means he found NO SUCH RECORD. As for the records I can access as of this posting, the earliest record of Thomas Huckens is his marriage to Mary Wells in 1642, no month or day given [Robert S. Wakefield, "Plymouth Colony Marriages," MQ 42(1976):64 citing the reprint of Plym. Col. Recs. 8:285-288]. Wakefield notes that, along with 8 other marriages, it was entered into the original volume AFTER 1646, the first year vital records reporting to the colony was required. That was 2 years after the birth of Thomas and Mary 1st known child in 1644. Thus, the date of the marriage is itself suspect.

For further review, Torrey New England Marriages 2:811 has this:

HUCKENS, Thomas (?1617-1679) & 1/wf Mary [WELLS] (-1648); 1642; Barnstable {Warner-Harrington 342, 644, 743; Newell Anc. 95; Cape Cod Lib. 34:18, 23; Reg. 2:194; MD 6:138, 18:200, 24:179; Barnstable Fam. 2:62; Winthrop-Babcock 276; Smith-Hale 448; Storrs

No one, it seems, has looked at deeds or probate for Thomas.

As to this Thomas being a member of the Ancient & Honourable Artillery Company, and therefore in Boston by 1639, (see claims below), that Thomas is Thomas HAWKINS - See archive.org, ANCIENT (Boston: 1842, 2nd. ed.), p. 82-83 and GMD 156 (Thomas of Whitechapel, co. Middlesex, 1636).  I tried accessing the ANCIENT links posted below but as of this hour I am getting Not Available pages. I therefore went to achive.org.

Based on the information avaialbe now, Thomas Huckens of Barnstable circa 1642 should not be included in the PGM project.
