Hollywood Spotlight: Raton has attracted its share of cinematic attention. Films like "Red River" and "The Ballad of Josie Wales" used the town's scenery as a backdrop.

I used to drive through Raton pass on my way to Denver usually approaching the area around 2 a.m. I'd always stop, get out of my Bronco and take some time to gaze at the milky way spanning across the night sky. The absolute quiet of the high plains desert and the purity of that night sky with zillions of stars was a sight I'll take to the grave in rememberance. That was Raton for me.
