Having trouble initiating merge request; results show a request to merge with self.

Question

I've tried to initiate a merge several times, each time it says "Your approval for this merge has been recorded", without going through the page stating why the 2 are the same. Also states that merge request is for Jelle-293 to Jelle-293. Comparison page is correct, (Riemersma-6 and Jelle-293). Nothing showing up in pending merges on either page.

I am the profile manager for Jelle-293, no response from manager of Riemersma-6.

It looks as if you're using an invalid ID number Gloria.  Should it be Jelles-293 that is the merge candidate?

'Jelles' is the correct LNAB (a patronym}. I don't understand how I could be using an incorrect ID number. Jelles-293 copied from profile and pasted into merge request on Riemersma-6.

Gloria, in you G2G question you said Jelle-293 four times instead of Jelles-293. That does seem to suggest the possibility that you entered the wrong ID when trying to merge. Could you try again as a double check?

Whoops, apologies for my awful typing skills. I do mean Jelles-293. Tried again, it is clearly Jelles-293 in the merge request. Both profiles show up correctly on the comparison page. When I click 'merge them', it skips the usual next page that sends the request to the other profile manager. Bumps me directly to 'your approval for this merge has been recorded, and shows the request as being Jelles-293 to itself.

Gloria, I looked again, and the profile ID for WikiTree profile Johannes Riemersma that you linked in the last line of your question is Jelles-293.  So that merge has already occurred, and according to the Changes log for that profile, you completed that merge on 7 Oct 2023.  Does that ring a bell?  The profile Riemersma-6 that you linked parenthetically in the first paragraph of your question is now showing as a different Johannes Riemersma.  If that is the profile you want to merge, then try proposing a merge of Riemersma-6 and Jelles-293 and see if that goes.  Riemersma-6 has a different PM who hasn't been active for several years, so you may need to wait it out for 30 days.

FYI I just entered the merge proposal for those two profiles and both seemed to take it normally.

Thank you! I see the pending merge on both profiles.

I can't understand why I couldn't get it to go through! This is far from the first time I've initiated a merge, have never run into this before.

And yes, I clearly remember the change in October. Have been focusing on undated profiles, adopted the profile to correct the LNAB. And then found duplicates for Johannes and his wife.
