I have hit a brick wall in my research with Mikel Lau b: 1771 in Pennsylvania, son to Phillip Lau b:1722 immigrant from Germany. The Lau/Low/Lowe story is the Mikel married Betsey Bortner in 1794, they left PA for NC then TN when it became a state in 1796. Specifically at that time it would be Anderson County, possibly Campbell County but later it extended to Scott County. I cannot find any record whatsoever of Betsey Bortner ever being in TN. I can't find a marriage record. A birth and baptism record do exist for a Maria Elizabetha Bortner but she was born in 1738, she would be far to old. Did she marry the elder Michael Lau, brother to Phillip and uncle to Mikel? I don't like relying solely on articles/books etc because names and dates get confused.
