AmericanAncestors lookup for Rebecca Whipple arrival 1760 Nova Scotia

[[Whipple-77|Rebeckah (Whipple) Bishop (abt.1701-1751)]] supposedly died in 1751, but there are immigration records that imply she arrived in Nova Scotia in 1760. I think these immigration records might have her as the former wife or deceased mother of other immigrants rather than an immigrant herself, but are not clear and cite other sources derived from the one in question. The primary immigrant is her husband, John Bishop.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to what might be the original record on AmericanAncestors in the collection [https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/new-englanders-in-nova-scotia/RecordDisplay?pageName=&rId=0 New Englanders in Nova Scotia Manuscript. R. Stanton Avery Special Collections, New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, MA.]

Could someone with a subscription do a lookup and post how she is mentioned? She is indexed as Rebecca Whipple (rather than Bishop) on the sources I’ve seen that ultimately lead to Avery.

Thanks, Mike

That NEHGS database is only on microfilm and is available for use at the NEHGS Research Library, call number F1036.8 .C78 1979

According to my notes Rebecca is listed as arriving at NS with John Bishop in 1760. I will try to locate my source for this. If that is correct, then she must have died by 1761, as John remarried that year.

My notes suggest the 1851 CT death record might be for another person with this name. But that hypothesis is based on her actually travelling to NS with John in 1760.

These notes are edited and originally from GenWeb: "Rebecca supposedly died in New London in 1751. John then married Mrs. Hannah (Allen) Comstock who had lost her husband, Gideon Comstock King George's War (1744-1748). However, Rebecca Bishop/Whipple is listed on the Passenger and Immigration List Index, 1500's - 1900's as accompanying John's party to Horton, Nova Scotia in 1760. In this same Index, another John Bishop is listed as being accompanied by a Hannah (Comstock) Bishop. To make matters even more confusing, John's will (he died on 28 October, 1785) mentions Hannah as his wife"

That is the same set of facts that leads me to think Rebeckah died in 1751, her husband remarried, and came to Nova Scotia with his second wife and sons. Maybe the sons gave the names of their parents and that is how Rebeckah (deceased) ended up on the records?

The Research Notes on her page has a chain of immigration sources leading to the NEGHS source.

The link is a little confusing.  You have to find the search page. But the information is online, and you're correct its just a reference to her as his first wife. It says his second wife was Hannah (Allen) Comstock, widow of Gideon.

It also says that Hannah Whipple Bishop died in 1751 in Hempstead.

So the information doesn't say she was ever in Nova Scotia

Hope thats what you're looking for. If you need any help that I can do let me know.

Yes, I had seen her page on the Whipple One Name Study website. It raised the same question concerning her death date before the immigration date. I’ve added a link to that page at the bottom of her profile. Thanks for the reminder :-)
