I was as interested in checking out the new way as anyone. I just find enough issues with it that I am proposing that we go back to the regular way.

I do not have an opinion on whether we should go back to the old way or not.  But I do have a couple of thoughts. The new way is much easier for me, as a team captain, to keep track of those who sign up for our team. And I appreciate that. On the other hand, I do miss the personal interaction by being able to comment and welcome each team member individually on their answer to the post.  (I know I can comment on their comment, but somehow it doesn't seem the same.)

What issues have you noticed Lisa? The only thing I have found is that some of our team members may have had a hard time finding the right team answer to comment under, but seem to have found it in the end. I am fine with either way of doing it. If one way or the other makes it easier for the admins that would be best. I would be interested to see if any other team captains have any opinions on the new system.

I have to admit I prefer the other way.

Additionally, currently I cannot upvote those who are signing up with my Team where previously I could.

Finding the right answer can be done giving them a URL that will go directly to the answer, and post that in your Team Chat on G2G & Discord etc. when promoting it.

e.g. Flying Dutchmen

I, for one, do not know how to get the target on the sign-up thread to direct my team members (#a blah blah blah).

Also, the Mid-Atlantic Team is "alphabetized" under "T" after "Team Italy," and "Team Massachusetts." I don't know if those are the proper names of those teams, but we don't call ourselves "Team Mid-Atlantic!" I'm considering re-naming the team "Atlantic, Mid-Team" to get on page one.

You can get that link from the answer post, where it has the answered link at the bottom of the answer, just before either the date/time since posting.

e.g. For Team Mid-Atlantic US

Lucy the reason for the location of the Team Mid Atlantic sign up post is where it is, is because the information showing on the main Help:Connect-a-thon page calls your team Team Mid Atlantic. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Connect-a-Thon#US_states_and_regions .

Going off your Space page there has been a change in how the team is called compared to when the Help page was changed. So you as team leader need to get that Help page changed and then for next Connectathon it will be correctly posistioned if the same format is followed.

Being a team captain, I really enjoyed being able to read all the comments. There are usually some really good ones and it seems people do not do that with this system.

I also feel the loss of not being able to comment to each member as they sign up.

I can not add the link for the chat on to the comments to each member. Some do not scroll up to my post to get that info with it this way.

New people do not get the same attention as they previously did. It is not set up to respond to just them.

To me this way just seems to cold and sterile.

I am no longer a Team Captain, because Jeffrey Wall took over the Nordic Noir. heart However, I agree with you Lisa.

As a team captain I find this new approach less work, as I don't have to search multiple pages looking for those answering to join my team.

I agree! I like this SO much better.
I agree. As much as I like getting to greet everyone, I like having my team members all in one place and not having to search through 500+ people. More and more people are signing up every year.

Maybe there's a meet-in-the-middle solution so everyone gets what they want, but I don't know what that would be.
