Who were the maternal grandparents of Joseph "Buck" Johnson?

This question was asked over a decade ago, and never received any responses.

It seems clear that his mother was Edna Richard, based on a marriage record listing her and Buck's father (or at least the same first and last name) in a plausible location (St. Martin).

But I cannot find out who her parents were. They are identified in some family trees with either unsatisfactory or contradictory evidence, or none at all. Some trees add "Marie" to her name, also without evidence.

This is literally the only evidence I've been able to find supporting her as the father of Buck:

Edna Richard's parents were Alcee Richard and Flora Use. I am in the process of adding sources to her profile from Catholic church records that show her parents in birth and marriage records. Bear with me a few minutes, I'll add a note when it's done.

The sources have been added. Hope this helps!

Fantastic work, thank you. A shame Alcee & Flora have not left any other traces of their existence on the internet (apparently).

Is the book you cited available online?

EDIT: This might be Flora, still investigating.

Unfortunately none of Hebert's work is available online. If you have access to a Louisiana library or a major genealogy library anywhere, you might have pretty good luck finding them there. You can also buy the books or CD from the publisher, I believe they are still in print, but it can get expensive. I built my collection up over a number of years.

Regarding the FS profile for Flore Use', maybe it's her. There is a death record for "Alce Richard" in 1888 that might be for her husband. I did notice in one of the books (1908 I believe) a marriage record for one of their children showed Alcee was deceased by then.

So she could have remarried and had more children. However I couldn't find any records for a Serrette-Use couple (or several variations of those names) on the CD, neither marriage or children. Maybe they moved out of the area?

Here are a couple of other records from the Hebert SWLR CD that might be relevant to this family:

Another child: RICHARD, Mary Aidy (Alce & Cloridia USEY) b. 3 May 1888 (Carencro Ch.: v. 2, p. 107)

RICHARD, Alce d. 22 Dec. 1888 at age 27 yrs. (BB Ch.: v. 2, p. 98)
