I hear you, but have a different perspective.
My wish, would be that Wikitree get rid of that term. Because it leads to so much confusion. It only applies to pre-1700 profiles (which I still disagree with), but should not be applied in any other situation.
I'm a half glass full type of person, to have any information is better than no information, because I can evaluate the information at hand to determine whether to accept it or do more research.
I have often posted that all a source serves is to tell you where the information came from so you can evaluate the accuracy yourself. Per Wikitree Sources (
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources)
A good source citation enables others to:
judge the accuracy of the information found on the profile, and
independently verify the information by finding the source themselves.
A complete source citation includes:
who made the record,
what the record is,
when the record was made, and
where the record is/was found.
With this as a community we can expand and improve. Even if someone gets it wrong or does not provide a source. At least you have a clue to start with and expand the research.
At any event that is the strength, because whatever is written can be improved upon instead of being locked and unchangeable.
