Errors in Categorization: British soldiers are listed under World War II, Japan because they were in Japanese camps.

Clarity is needed on the POW categories. As profile mgr, I am looking for a category with country of where POW was held, rather than country of service.

The note on POW, World War II, Japan, says these should be Japanese soldiers, not those held by Japan. The names currently in this category are all British, which doesn’t match the definition, but does match what I was looking for.

Are there data doctors to straighten this out or the Categorization Project?

Thx, Joanna

You said that you are looking for a category with country of where POW was held, so I think you want one of the sub-categories of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:World_War_II_POW_Japanese_Camps.

There are members (or possibly just one dedicated member!) who try to fix profiles accidentally categorised by where they died or were held as POWs instead of which country they were serving, so hopefully the open profiles in the wrong categories will be moved at some point (see https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1592257/just-a-reminder-with-roll-of-honor-categories).

For my grandfather's profile (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Manley-1807) I used one category to show which country he was serving ([[Category: Prisoners of War, United Kingdom, World War II]]) and one category to show where he was held ([[Category:World War II POW German Camps, Oflag VII-B]]).

I've moved the 2 open profiles and left a comment on the locked one.

There are no "special" people required to move an open profile from a category not applicable to the correct category. Any member who has signed the Honor code can edit an open profile, and change the category, if it is determined to not be correct. In this case it was a matter of changing Japan to United Kingdom. The rest of the category was unchanged.

There are 3 profiles in [[Category: Prisoners of War, Japan, World War II]]
I agree that the description says "Note: This category should contain profiles of JAPANESE military personnel who were imprisoned by other countries during WWII."

I agree with Paul that the 3 profiles are in the wrong place and should be moved to one of the sub-categories of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:World_War_II_POW_Japanese_Camps

Thank you, Margaret.  I didn’t feel that I would have enough information to move those accurately.  The POW categories are new for me.
@Joanna, no problem at all, you did the right thing, asking for advice when you came across something that didn't look right. Now all fixed, all 3 profiles are in the correct category.
