A New Challenge

Question

Are you interested in a new challenge for the new year? Check out the GEDImprove (GEDI) Challenge with a whole new set of GEDCOM and profiles.

There are 12 fairly small GEDCOM. How soon can we improve all of those 6000 profiles? Just to keep things interesting there is a 29,000 profile GEDCOM if you want to tackle something big!

Don't be intimidated. The GEDI Space Page has a quick start summary for improving the profiles using the Automatic GEDCOM Cleanup (AGC), Bio Check, and WikiTree Sourcer tools.

The GEDI Overview spreadsheet now shows the number of undated, unknown, and unconnected profiles for each GEDCOM.

Let's keep going. In the two and a half years since the GEDI challenge started, we have improved nearly 30,000 profiles.

How many can we get done in 2024? My plan is to be more active with GEDI in 2024.

Good to know that this challenge exists - I wish you every possible success and may join some other year. Right now, I'll try to get as many of the 6000 or so profiles from the first of my parents GEDCOMs into WikiTree as I can, using these guidelines....

I'm not ready to join this challenge, yet. However, I was wondering if there is a way to find out if any of the profiles I manage need a GEDCOM cleanup? I'm pretty sure I still have some out there, but have been relying on accidentally stumbling into them before realizing it needs doing, which seems inefficient.

Darlene - You can use the Bio Check app to find profiles on your watchlist. Remember to increase the number of profiles you check. Select Report all profiles and Search biography for import and then on the results, click on the Found column heading to sort the results.

I'd like to work on this challenge this year.  I've been running the 853 report by state/century, and cleaning up New England.  I think it would be easier to work by family groups.
