Something most of us find while digging through old boxes from our grandparents and great-grandparents are greeting cards. Before the advent of telephones and the technology we depend on today, writing someone was one of the most common ways to connect with distant (and close!) dear ones. I often find myself buried in the stacks of paper miscellany wondering what I can do with some of it.
One of the cool but lesser-known features of WikiTree is our e-card system, and our massive and growing collection of vintage cards that can be sent as e-cards. This is a way to share your old family cards with others. We've had some very generous members scan in high-quality copies of their collections.
Would you like to add some?
- Make sure the greeting card is old enough to not be a copyright issue. Cards in poor condition or covered with handwriting are also not the best candidates for sharing. These can be added to ancestor's images, though, if they are attached to someone you've identified.
- Scan in at a high quality/size. It needs to be at least 500 pixels wide.
- Crop the image so it's only the card.
- Upload the card to any free-space page. You can create your own page for your collection.
- If a card celebrates a holiday or has a particular theme, browse this e-cards category and add it to the appropriate collection. For example, if it's a "Happy New Year" card you would find this page and add Space:New_Year%27s_E-Cards as a "Person or Thing" in the image on the image details page.
- If you get stuck, post here and maybe someone can help.
That's it! Then the card is available for you and any other member to send it as an e-greeting, like this one.
