Just for fun; Do you know what day of the week you were born

The birthday nursery rhyme says:

Monday's child is fair of face,

Tuesday's child is full of grace,

Wednesday's child is full of woe,

Thursday's child has far to go.

Friday's child is loving and giving,

Saturday's child works hard for a living,

And the child that is born on the Sabbath day, is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

I am one of 7 children, we were born on the 7 days of the week.

Child # 1 was born on a Saturday

Child #2 me was born on a Monday

Child #3 was born on a Friday

Child #4 was born on a Thursday

Child #5 was born on a Tuesday

Child # 6 was born on a Wednesday

Child # 7 was born on a Sunday

That is so cool! What are the chances? (Any mathematicians out there who want to answer that?)

The calculation is relatively simple. smiley

The first child has 7 choices from 7 possibilities. This means 7/7 = 100,0%.

The second child has only 6 choices from 7 possibilities, as 1 choice is blocked. This means 6/7 = 85,7%. Together 7/7 * 6/7 = 85,7%.

The seventh child has only one choice from 7 possibilities left, as 6 choices are blocked. This means 1/7 = 14,3%.

All together you have 7/7 * 6/7 * 5/7 * 4/7 * 3/7 * 2/7 * 1/7 = 0,61%.

But you need also the rare case of exactly seven children.

Thanks, Siegfried! I’m glad you included your calculations; seeing them I remembered learning this, way back when. laugh  The takeaway, for me, is that while quite unlikely, it’s certainly not one in a million! Thanks again!

I'm a bit astonished.

0,61% means 1 to 164. That's not very little.

For comparison: The probability for seven children being born at the same weekday is 1 to 117649.

Your family story is amazing! I had thought that I was born on a Thursday, but I just looked it up and I was born on Friday!

My two children were born on Tuesday and Friday.

Shortly before a sister, child # 6 was born, my dad figured out that the other 5 of us has been born on different days of the week, leaving only Wednesday and Sunday available. She was born about 12.20 am on the Wednesday.

That only left Sunday for my youngest sibling. And he was such a nice child. Not that I knew him well as a child, I left for university when he was 4.

On a Friday, the idea of that has always been a bit of a pick-me-up over the years.

Sunday, at 10 to 1pm just in time for Sunday dinner LOL. Perhaps that's why I've always been in love with food.

Tuesday.

Just a couple of hours late for my mother's birthday and she was a Saturday girl, and did work hard for her living.

My daughter and I are both Tuesday children, my son Thursday, my siblings Monday children.  My Mum was a Friday child, but my daughter's birthday, Mum's birthday, and my birthday, all fall on the same day each year except when a leap day happens and I get pushed out of alignment.

(I don't think I fit the rhyme, though, as I never was very graceful!  Mum was, though, and my girl is.)

I was born just across the water at the Davidson-Hay Hospital in Port Angeles, Washington, while Port Angeles was in blackout for fear of a Japanese submarine attack on the April 29th birthday of Emperor Hirohito in 1944.  The Allies fighting in the Pacific noted a rash of fanatical Japanese attacks honoring my Hirohito's birthday.

Just my luck.  I just missed being loving and giving, but had to work hard for a living.  I was born at 1:44 AM on Saturday.  Had I been aware of the nursery rhyme, I might have pushed my mother a bit harder.

I thought Gary might have started something, picking this general area to be born in.

Perhaps the question could be changed to "Just for fun; Do you know what day of the week you were born along the Strait of Juan de Fuca?" laugh

Saturday, May 7, 1960. My Mother frequently told me that my birth made her qualify for Mother's Day. That year Mother's Day was May 8th. I'm not too sure about how hard I work for a living.

I was born on a Sunday, and my Mom used to read me this poem!
My own children were born on Friday and Tuesday.  My Friday child is loving and giving, but if "full of Grace" is supposed to mean "Graceful" my Tuesday baby missed the mark - he could trip over his own shadow!
