Appropriate formatting for LNAB with particle-apostrophe

I inherited management of some profiles whose surname canonically begins with d', and that's definitely part of the name — d'Armond became DeArmond and eventually Dearmond within several generations. And the LNAB looks funny to me without the apostrophe, e.g. DArmand-6. I just wondered if there's an official policy or guidance about that. The help page covers particles and spacing but not apostrophes.

Irish (usually) names using O' get added just fine.  (Even though the English records may drop the O' part.)

Thanks. I guess I've got O'Caines and didn't even think about them. smiley

I think that in early days, datafields - including Last Name at Birth (LNAB) - did not support apostrophes. Now they do. But be sure it is a "straight" not a "curly" apostrophe.
Good point, Liz.  I tend to forget that some people still input the curly / smart quotes / apostrophes.
Searching datasets for names with apostrophes has long been a problem for me with D'Arcy.  I often just searched "arcy" instead.   This problem has decreased over time, but the problem does still exist.  So be aware when you search and try to find the time to search each possible combination you can think of.

I am fairly certain that WikiTree treats the surname Darcy separate to D'Arcy.
