I have developed or connected to long lines trying to see how far back I can go.  Long thin lines.

In 2024 I will make the lines fat and not worry about the length. I will start up the ladder from my grand parents and gather their siblings and their spouses and children. When I am satisfied with that generation I will climb a step higher and do the same.

I wonder how long it will take me to get everything back to 1850, some is finished already.

i ENVY YOUR CONFIDENCE!  Do you have a gol plan in mind  I would just like to know where my parents married.?  Not a big goal but im hoping to achieve this important step...Good luck with achieving your chosen paths to keep on having the confidence to climb higher in your tree!

Gerry19756
Thank you!

I know you will find the marriage information somewhere, it is a good goal.

I am lucky to have had a lot of work done by aunts on each side. They gave me lots of names, dates, locations, relationships - but very few sources. Finding the sources has taken years in some cases, but the sources often give me hints to move sideways.

If you need help, come back here and ask. Point us to profiles where you need some input. Many here will help you.
Thank you Kristina Adams Im still getting used to the outlook mail and missed your thoughtful comment actually Dec 18, was our sons memorium he died in a car accident form a drunk drive two yeats ago  im starting to disasoate again I appreat help Take care

My genealogy goal for 2024 is to complete the personal mini-project I started in the beginning of this year and add all victims of the Putten Raid to Wikitree (and connect them) before the 80-year memorial on October 2nd.

I commend you for working on this project!  I feel that it is so important to not forget our history and those that died fighting for what they believed.
What a great project!

105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Project

My multi-year goal is to:

1) research all 1099 soldiers that served in the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry

2) make WikiTree the most complete repository of reference materials of the soldiers who served in the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

I hope to complete this effort during 2028.

During 2023, the number of profiles of 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry increased by 76 - from 755 to 831.

Companies D, E, F, G, H and I are completed.  Company K is underway.

Goals for 2024 are:

1) to complete the 56 remaining soldiers in Company K  by October 10, 2024.  This will add Company K to the completed Companies list and anticipates a soldier completion rate of 6 per month.  Since some of these profiles are stubbed up and some don’t exist at all, this will bring the total complete to 864.

January — Private Henry Clay Hickok, Private Clency E. Hill, Private Issac Willard Hine, Private William D. Holden, Private William Henry Howard, Sr., Private Marcus W. Humphrey. ✅

February — Private Albert G. Hutchinson, Corporal Wesley Levi Jarvis, Private Stephen James Hutchinson, Private Albert H. Kinney, 1st Sergeant George L. Mason, Private Albertus N. Parker. ✅

March - Private Henry A. Scoville, Private George Seymour, Private David Hutchinson, Private Albert Jenkins, Private George W. Johnson, Sergeant Lysander P. Jordan. ✅

April - Private Amos H. King, Private George King, Private Matthew Laskey, Private John Friend Mann, Corporal Alba Burnham Martin, Private Seymour Levi Morgan. ✅

May - Private Horace William Pangburn.

2) to complete the first 16 soldiers from the Company B roster by  December 31, 2024.  I’m pivoting to Company B at the request of the 105th re-enactors group.  This anticipates a soldier completion rate of 6 per month starting in October.  Since some of these profiles are stubbed up and some don’t exist at all, this will bring the total complete to 876.

January - Private Henry L. Beebe, Private Edward M. Bell, Sr., Captain Andrew D. Braden, all of Company B.

3) to accomplish up to 5 related sub projects from material or requests from other WikiTree members. (TBD)

▫️ Update Corporal Joseph Applegate family information provided by family member J. Muetzel. (In process.)

▫️Continue to try to obtain permission to use the letters and diary of Edwin R. More in his and his families WikiTree profile. See https://sites.rootsweb.com/~ohgeauga/morediry.htm.  The permission emails shown on the page bounced.  Now I need to try to locate the individuals to get permission.

▫️Create a Where They Lived page to facilitate better conversations with various historical societies.

▫️2 TBD

4) to sustain the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry project information and continue to seek for members to join this project.

5) I am willing to be a speaker on the topic of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for any historical or genealogical groups.  I hope to give at least 3 presentations.

6) Extras: Stubbed up Captain Henry P. Gilbert, Sergeant Nelson Henry Smith, Chaplain Albert D. Morton, Sergeant Isaiah J. Nessle, Private Theron McKinley, Private John F. Edwards.

Thank you for your work!  As a Veteran I appreciate your dedication.  I have a similar goal of working with my grandfather's WWI unit - the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, but it seems so daunting.

Thank you!  This work started in 2013 to honor my 3x great-grandfather, 2d Lt. Alonzo Chubb of Company D and the 2 officers who were POWs with him at Libby prison.

It you want to honor your grandfather, maybe you could choose a small group related to his service.  It would be amazing to have that story told!

This year, I want to verify the parents of Christopher Hissong and George Smee

I have some good hints and probabilities, but looking for solid evidence.

Besides continuing on with my WikiTree projects, I have a personal ongoing project that I need to spend time on this year. I need to continue organizing my personal documents and papers collected over the last few decades. I have notebooks for important documents of each family - these need to be scanned, saved to an external drive and then refiled into the proper notebook. Then, the corresponding file folder for that person or family needs to be cleaned out. My children and grands would not be interested in the minor stuff collected back in the 70's and 80's so it needs to be out of the way. The day all of that is finished I will sit down and have two cups of hot tea - oh wait, maybe two glasses of good red wine!!
by Virginia Fields G2G Astronaut (1.2m points)
Oh yes, so many organizing tasks to be done, a whole room full of 'stuff' to be organised..
Cheers to that!  I am trying to scan and upload photos my Mother in Law gave me and associate them on WikiTree and FS.   She gave them to me a while back, and I have unfortunately forgotten some of the names of people, so I'll have to do some rework sending her 1 image at a time and asking for details.  I don't have a digital or paper file system in place at all, so I really need to get to work with figuring out how to do that, as of right now all my work is online.
I am with you on scanning some photos.  We lost my mother-in-law this year.  Her husband has given me 1 boot box full of photos and there are more coming as he is cleaning the house.  I do have some sort of system on my computer but it is a daunting task.  Once the photos are scanned I have about 5-6 people that want copies.  I have flash drives ready to go and I also have my personal website to display.

Think BIG??!? Why not??

Let's get all 8 billion of us connected and then trace and document our ancestors back to Noah. Can you imagine what a database that would be?

I have been working on a Cemetery Project for Alton Cemetery, Ontario, Canada.

My goal is identify the interrelationships and connections between the 1473 people buried in the cemetery. Currently I have sourced profiles for 605 of those people, 15 of them are unconnected, 10 will probably become connected after other family members are added, the other 5 perhaps not as birth, death and census records are not available or do not exist for the time.

If all goes according to plan I will add profiles and connections for 50 % which is 434 of the remaining 868 people buried there during 2024.

Occasionally but not often I find profiles for people buried at Alton that have already been created which is a big bonus.

I have 2 major goals for 2024 and Genealogy.

First, on Ancestry my personal tree has almost 27,000 people on it.  I would like to find a faster way to get more of them added to this tree here.  I think it would really help more people that use WikiTree and myself.

Second, I have just over 200 various Family Trees that I have worked on that are on Ancestry that need added to WikiTree.  I need to get everything verified on each tree first, then get them added here.

WOW!  It all sounds like a LOT of work to me.  If someone knows simplified ways of doing either of these, please let me know!

My goals: I have a small percentage of Ashkenazi Jewish DNA. I would like to find the ancestor that passed that down to me. I would also like to confirm my Scottish ancestor(s).

I want to go deeper with my research.  It's so easy to pull over all the Family Search (FS) sources, and even the Ancestry records.  I'm trying to spend more time improving the FS profile, and then building profiles on WikiTree.  I want to do a better job updating information across platforms and pulling in resources across the spectrum, slowing down and doing better work.  Easier said than done especially when I have SO MANY THINGS I want to do.

Sounds like we work the same way! I've accepted that this more methodical approach will result in a more medieval pace. It just makes sense to clean up the FS profile while I'm in there hitting "Build All Citations" laugh

I've watched some video's on people's research checklists and at first they felt really overwhelming to me.  I'm kind of a process person - I'll go through and do one task over and over and over for as many people as I can, then I'll cycle on another task, etc.  But I'm starting to see the value of sinking into one person at a time and doing as much as you can while you are there.  We'll see if I can change my ways.

Just as an added note - I tend to do this with the anniversary list that comes in the Wikitree email each week. I think of it as a little birthday gift for them laugh If their profile is very rough formed, I'll do a little to dress it up, but if it's already looking alright, I'll add a couple kids or take the time to add all their categories. I'm a process person too - by making it into a little layered procedure, I don't feel like I'm neglecting too many profiles that I manage.

That being said - I am trying to go deeper on my direct ancestors this year and really go beyond listing sources and having a barebones bio. Here's to us both diving deep this year! Cheers!

My goal hopefully for 2024 is to add everyone that was in the 145th Machine Gun Battalion during World War 1 to Wikitree. There were abt 750 people in this group.

The next goal will be to get over 300K Points.

In 2024 I really want to take the time to learn how to use WIKiTree better, clean up any mistakes I have thus far and try to add more to my tree. If I had a wish it would be that the brick wall would at least crack a little for my paternal Forsythe side, but I also want to help my husband discover more for his family.

New impetus to work on my extended family tree this year.  My first grandchild is due in June.  That basically doubles the size of the tree.

I'm doing almost all work on Ancestry where I find it so much easier to create profiles and attach sources, photos, and stories. - Tammie Cochran wrote, in an answer above, that she wished for an easier way to transfer person profiles, data, and sources from Ancestry here to WikiTree.  I second that motion.  If FamilyTreeMaker can do it, why can't WikiTree?  Yes, it ought to be curated, somehow, as with GEDcom files, so that WikiTree is not saturated with garbage.

I hope to identify all relatives of the new child up to 4th cousins.  I've been trying to do that for myself, and it is a daunting task.  I hope to write more in-depth bios of some of the people I personally remember, to preserve my memories and perspectives for future generations.  This is one of the biggest legacies we can leave.

This year I'm making a concerted effort to transfer research notes and personalized narration from my Ancestry tree to Wikitree - at least for my direct ancestors. It can do a lot more good here!
by Sarah Kroh G2G6 Mach 3 (33.9k points)
Yes, indeed! That's why I'm focusing so much of my effort here now: it makes a bigger difference in the long run.

Good luck with your efforts!
I have been transferring a lot of my Ancestry tree to Wikitree too.  I agree that displaying here is more useful than on Ancestry.  I've got a long way to go.  Good Luck and you are not alone.

On WikiTree I have concentrated on my father's lines, particularly GEDDIE ancestors to the exclusion of most other lines. I have many connections on the tree. In 2024 I would like to add, at least, enough of my mother's father's lines of COOKE, COTTERELL PARSONS, and WEBBER to get some connections on WikiTree. Maybe 2025 will be her mother's lines of EDWARDS, WATERS, SMITH and ASHLEY....

Yes I do have a goal for 2024. I'm in the midst of gathering sources and facts so that my branch of the Sevier Family can be substantiated, and as a result, make it into the Sevier Family History book, 1961, which is going to be updated and republished. My connecting ancestor is my third great-grandmother, who currently is listed as Helen or Ellen. Her name was Helen Ellender Sevier, daughter of John Sevier (1796-1863) and his first wife, Anna Friend. It's my task to vet all of his children, his first seven by Anna, and the following six by his second wife, Mary Boss Myers. Most of the information published, so far, is correct for the second family. Suffer me to say, I have my work cut out for me.

Like everyone (I assume) I have my private tree on my computer, and I have my portion of our shared tree on WT, along with Ancestry, MH, and several other DNA sites. Over the past year, I have noticed the two main ones are getting out of line, as facts get added to one, and I forget about the other.

So in January, I have set myself an audit task. I exported both tree's main facts to a spreadsheet. I can compare each easily and see where the inconsistencies are, and update accordingly. However, I also set myself the secondary task for wikitree. As I work through each profile, I want to add categories to each one. I didn't understand how categories really worked, so I have been prepping to do that.  (I would love to see a video on just categories on youtube, because the way the information is presented is, IMO, not very user friendly. There are videos, but categories is mixed in with so many other things. Shout out to 'Categories with Natalie')

Did my first edit yesterday, and have set myself the task of 2 profiles per day :)
