New Member Introduction

Hi all -- My name is Linda Goin (Goin-680), and I'm having a blast with this site. The learning curve is easy so far, and there's so much to explore. I especially appreciate the DNA features and the help I've received so far. I've been interested in my family's ancestry ever since my paternal grandfather said our surname was "Goin" because we never stayed in one place. If he knew what I know about his family now, he would turn over in his grave. He, along with many other family members on that side had a huge falling out over the past century, and it wasn't easy to learn about a lot of the past until it became available online. In the meantime, I went for my master's degree in history and ended up writing a thesis about the Calvinist traditions that were similar between the New England Baptists who migrated to Virginia and who met up with the Huguenot refugees along the James River. Learned a lot about my family with that research.

Just wanted to say hi and thanks.

Hi Chris -- correct. I created that page for my father on Findagrave when he died in 2020. Last name, btw, is Goin, not Coin. =)

Hello and welcome.

I love your grandfather's sense of humor. "Goin because we never stayed in one place." He must have been a character.

Oh, grandpa was full of it, for sure. What a character. I miss him.
It is sort of a shame that these profiles cannot better reflect the character of the person. I find it hard to capture that in a short bio.
I know, right? I could write a book about my experiences with my paternal grandfather. He was definitely of an era, strong-headed, and determined -- even when it wasn't good for him. ha!
