Something to keep in mind: privacy laws generally do not apply to deceased persons, there are no federal privacy laws for the deceased.

Find a grave is a public website, and is available to anyone without restriction.

In California, anyone can request a death record, although certified copies (for legal purposes) are only available to certain people, eg, next of kin. The information on a certified copy is exactly the same as an informational/genealogical copy. From time to time I have requested copies of death certificates from other states, the only requirement to get it was to pay the fee.

The information is out there. You can control what is accessible for viewing on WikiTree Profile with Privacy settings. Click the privacy tab on profile. Padlock. It will explain the various privacy levels and settings.
