Who is Hannah Pidge formerly Freeman-1433’s father?

I asked this question because William Brewster showed up in the list of My Connections to Mayflower Passengers. This was news to me so I investigated his ancestors. I discovered Hannah Freeman Pidge (Freeman-1433) and looked further since I didn’t have Thomas Freeman-1141 as her father.

Deacon Thomas Freeman -1191’s profile lists his children including Hannah b. Sept. 28, 1687, d. young. All his children were born in Harwich, Eastham, or Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Hannah Pidge formerly Freeman-1433's profile lists her as Thomas Freeman’s daughter and her profile gives her birth as 24 Apr 1686 in Rehoboth, Bristol Co., Plymouth Colony. These are two different Hannahs.

I believe that Hannah Freeman-1433 is the daughter of David Freeman. In his will, [https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9Y5-89M9-B?i=738&cat=277787 Bristol Co., Mass., Probate Records, Vol. 7:552-4],
David Freeman-4715 give[s] “to my Daughters Namely Hannah Pidge and Margaret Short to the heirs and assigns as addition to what I have formerly given them Ten Pounds a piece…” and gave “to my grandson Jonathan Pidge Ten Pounds.”

Margaret Short formerly Freeman-2265 is the daughter of David Freeman-4715.

Jonathan Pidge is Josiah and Hannah (Freeman) Pidge’s son born 17 February 1727, in Attleborough, Bristol, Massachusetts, [”Massachusetts Births and Christenings, 1639-1915", , FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VQDB-CRF : 15 January 2020), Jonathan Pidge, 1727.] I am unable to add Jonathan as their child because of the Pre-1700 Requirement.

I would like help in straightening out the fathers of Hannah Freeman.

Big thanks to Bobbie Hall for helping me with this.

I've now updated the affected profiles. I've moved Hannah (Freeman) Pidge to her appropriate parents, and created a new daughter Hannah for Thomas Freeman. I've cited David Freeman's will in his and his daughters' profiles as proof of the relationships. David also had a second wife, "Mrs Elizabeth Ide." I've cited their marriage record, but have not created a profile for her.

Any edits/additions to these profiles are welcome.

Hi Rikki,

I think you're on the right path. Since David Freeman's will names his daughters, using their married names, I can see no other answer. I'd simply wait a few days to see if the profile managers on the affected profiles have anything additional to add. Removing Rebecca (Sparrow) Freeman as her mother will break the connection to her Mayflower ancestry, so I think they need a chance to respond before we sever the connection.

Hi Bobbie,

Actually the Mayflower ancestry goes through profile photo Thomas Freeman's mother Mercy (Prence) Freeman through her mother Patience (Brewster) Prence to her father William Brewster. Getting this straight in my head means that all the descendants of Hannah (Freeman) Pidge will no longer have this Mayflower connection. Did I get this right?

I stand corrected! I took a quick glance and didn't focus on the Mayflower trail. Yes, you're right. The Pidge line will not be considered a Maylflower lineage in any case.

Not a problem Bobbie, just wanted Pidge family to be aware

I agree with your assessment of Hannah Freeman Pidge's parentage.

There are no PIDGE surnames listed in the William Brewster silver book (Vol 24, part 1, pub 2014), nor in the part 3 extension (descendants of Patience (Freeman) Prence.  Thomas Freeman and Rebecca Sparrow are listed in part 1, with a daughter Hannah, born 28 Sep 1687, died 25 Aug 1707.  She could not be the Hannah Pidge who was having children between 1712-1730.

Thank you, Jerri. Does it supply a source for her death in 1707, please?
Mayflower Births and Deaths, by Susan Roser, Vol 1, page 254, published 1992.
Thanks Jerri, I found her gravestone in Brewster.
