"The manuscript “History of Paxton, Massachusetts” emerges as an indispensable tool for genealogical research, particularly for those delving into the heritage and family lines originating from Paxton, Massachusetts, and its surrounding areas. This review, from a genealogical standpoint, offers a closer look at its contents and utility:

First, the manuscript is a treasure trove of detailed genealogical records concerning the early settlers and notable families of Paxton. A prime example is the supplement that meticulously traces the genealogy of some of the first settlers and their progeny, including the Abbott, Bigelow, Boynton, Davis, Earle, Estabrook, Flint, Grosvenor, Howe, Maynard, Metcalf, Moore, Parkhurst, Partridge, Slade, Snow, and Warren families (refer to page 98). Such comprehensive documentation of lineages, complete with dates of births, deaths, and marriages, is invaluable for genealogists piecing together family histories."

Your message reads like an advert for a new book offered for sale, but in fact this is a 19th-century book that's in the public domain and available for free on multiple websites. It's one of the myriad sources documented by a Source page in WikiTree's Source Library. See Space: The history of Paxton, Massachusetts

Many towns have similar town history books. They vary tremendously in their quality.

You will see by the quotation marks that I am quoting the source for this manuscript. I thought it may be useful to share it here in case others are helped by it. It appeared on my Facebook page so I thought why not. I do know that there are heaps of free resources out there in the public domain, highlighting them for easy access here is my only goal.

You objective is great for people who happen to be interested in Paxton, Massachusetts, but that's just one town, and this is a very big world. Pages like Sources - Massachusetts (just one example) are created and maintained to help WikiTreers pursue their diverse research interests, regardless of their topic.

Sorry, I will refrain from further source posts like this. I thought it would help.

Please don't let me discourage you from sharing information about sources, but please consider where and how you communicate the information. If you want to tell people about a research resource for Paxton, Massachusetts, your information is more likely to reach people who would be interested in Paxton if you put it in a place where they might be seeking Paxton information, such as that Sources - Massachusetts page, or the WikiTree Paxton category, or a free-space page about Paxton or resources for Paxton research. A post in G2G might be findable if someone happens to search G2G for "Paxton, Massachusetts," but G2G search isn't awfully efficient.

Instead of posting each new source you find here in G2G, I suggest that you look to see if the source has a Source page here. If it does, you might want to add to it (for example, I noticed that the list of access locations on Space: The history of Paxton, Massachusetts didn't include the URL where you found a downloadable copy). And if there's no Source page yet, you could create a new one (I've created 23 of them so far this year) and make sure it's listed in relevant categories and Source list pages. Or maybe you want to create a free-space page about Paxton or start a one-place study.

G2G can be a good place to converse about research and sources (for example, to ask a question about whether a particular source you discovered is considered reliable), but it's not particularly effective as a bulletin board for posting individual notices. [Note that I'm saying this as an active G2G user who has an absurdly large G2G "point" total and serves as a G2G Moderator. I'm not dissing G2G; I'm just describing reality.]

Thank you for posting this. As someone who’s trying to figure out how to utilize this site, which is extremely complicated for someone who doesn’t have much time to navigate through it, I appreciate receiving reliable information that pops up in the G/G feed.

This source looks like it could knock down several of my brick walls. I appreciate the share!
