There is currently one female in the WT Military Medal category - let's try and change that over this Remembrance weekend. Here are sources for nurse/female recipients

Military nurses awarded highest nursing honours

Memorial in York Minster to women who lost their lives taking part in WWI in a wide range of occupations as nurses, doctors, munitions workers, land army, mercantile marine, transport, WRNS, WRAF and volunteers of all types.

Edit: added link for citations for Queen Alexandra's Imperial Army Nursing Service

Hi D. This is a great idea. At the moment the IWM site

https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/

says "This site is currently down for maintenance" so your links don't work. Hopefully this won't last long.

typical! too much traffic to the website over this weekend probably.

I'll leave the links because they will work in the future but I've added a couple of alternate links

I've added the Royal Red Cross category and RRC suffix for Margaret Graham RRC (1860 - 1942).

Leah Rosenthal MM RRC (1879-1930) and Isabella Kate Jobson RRC (1878-1943) now both have categories and suffixes for their medals, as well as expanded biographies and sources. With the addition of Leah, Category: Military Medal includes two women.

IWM digital archive apparently needed an unforeseen major upgrade and is now back online. smiley

Many of the profiles have photos and bio outlines which can be used to kickstart a WT bio.

Given the number of recipients we will keep this challenge going until next Remembrance weekend, with the occasional reminders and updates throughout the year.

profile MM Nov 2023 now 2

43 profiles RRC Nov 2023 now 47

0 profile York Memorial Nov 2023 (new category)

Thanks for supporting the Great War subproject of Military & War - these women deserve their recognition for bravery and sacrifice.
