Thomas Tye died in April, 1861, yet is buried in the Methodist section at  Rookwood which opened in 1867/68. Is anyone aware of the original burial, eg. Chalmers St ? From a photo, the headstone appears to be in perfect condition after at least 160yrs.

How frustrating that his funeral notices don't identify the cemetery. I wonder if he was originally buried in the Old Sydney Burial ground? He is not on the list managed by the City of Sydney archives department (this is incomplete). You could reach out to the manager of the FindAGrave memorial (she may know more) or email the Rookwood Cemetery. They may have additional information. Otherwise, purchase a copy or transcript of his death certificate. This should show where and when he was buried.

Thanks Susan. It gets worse, Rookwood have no record of him, they're investigating......(d.o.d too late for Old Sydney, would have been Devonshire/Chalmers St.) Now trying to contact the unknown cousin contributor.
