I just finish most of a profile I am working on.  This man was 19 and joined the National Guard for the Spanish-American War.  He was a Private.  He mustered out and WWI came along and he joined the US Army, Officers Training..ended up a Major in the Infantry.  Here is the data I have:

*Spanish American War

**United States National Guard

**Company M  Regiment 3rd Infantry

**Military Rank Private

*World War I

**United States Army

**Regiment 19th  Hawaiian Dept

**Military Rank Major

I flunk at this..please help.

Thank you, Lynn

Thanks Natalie.  I promise to take notes!  ❣️
Hi Lynn. Just curious about his name. I can't see ancestry records and the shared records are often hard to read (not your fault) so was he born Henry and used Frederick as his first name?

It looks like he remained in the army for a time after WWI.https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHV-N3CP-FPP6?view=index&personArk=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3A6D11-JC67&action=view In Fort Benning, Georgia at Infantry School.  He was in the Army until at least 1933, according to muster rolls.

I think I've got the stickers all set now.
Will check on that.  I couldn’t find the muster roll on Ancestry for WWI.  Thanks.  Frederick his name..a migraine got in the way yesterday.  Maybe I should hang up my genealogy hat.

But thanks for posting the category for him.  Much better explanation from your work.  I will use that now as a reference. You are a peach.  Lynn

Migraines STINK. I was a sufferer from puberty until menopause, so I know how they mess with your head. No need to hang up the genealogy hat; just rest when you have a migraine. I don't know how you can even LOOK at a computer when you have a migraine. I never could.

Take care and keep on plugging away, Lynn. smiley

He did leave the National Guard..then WWI …he stayed in the Army until 1933..and retired.  Pieced together from Ancestry and what you recommended from Family Search.  I don’t have all the Regiments he was in though.  And, couldn’t find any awards/merits he might have gotten.

While having a peek I did notice that your sources # 14 and #17 link to the same record, the U.S., Select Military Registers, 1862-1985, same page.

Thanks John for pointing that out..I will doublecheck.

I corrected it John…it isn’t always easy to copy the link from Ancestry with my index finger and post it on the Source line I pretyped.  I hate when that happens.  I know that Ancestry doesn’t really like sharing but in the last 25 years, if you ignore everyones trees and just do your own thing..the system is simple and sources are terrific..and better each day.  I am sure they could come up with a streamlined or better yet…wiki could come up with a better system too.  imho  but thanks for catching that.
You are welcome, at the moment I am trying to replace all the Ancestry sources in my tree with the same sources but from more accessible (free) sites. I can feel your pain.
