Advice before editing this pre-1700 Mortenson profile?

I have information to contribute to the profile of Niels (Mortenson) Mortenson Ekenes. This is what I can add:

• He was not named 'Ekenes' at birth, because 'Ekenes' is the name of his wife's farm. 

These are the sources I am using:

• The name of his wife's parents is 'Ekenes'

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Hi Jan,

It looks like these are profiles for people born in Norway? According to the Norway project naming guidelines, the "Last Name at Birth" should usually be the patronymic name only for this time period. The farm name(s) should go in the "Other Last Names" field or the "Current Last Name" field.

Also, do you have any sources for these pre-1700 profiles other than the family tree images you added? At least one reliable source is required at the time of creating a pre-1700 profile on WikiTree. Please note that family trees are not considered reliable sources. You can read about reliable sources for pre-1700 Norway here.

Also, try to include birth/death locations in the profile whenever possible, they help a lot.
