Bobby Charlton, Manchester United icon who survived plane crash and won World Cup for England, dead at 86

An extravagantly gifted midfielder with a ferocious shot, Charlton was the leading scorer for both United (249 goals) and England (49 goals) for more than 40 years..

"Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world," United said.

"He was admired as much for his sportsmanship and integrity as he was for his outstanding qualities as a footballer; Sir Bobby will always be remembered as a giant of the game."

I don't like to be a self-server in regard to notable or famous people, however, Sir Bobby Charlton's life was saved by his teammate Harry Gregg. This is not to lionise Harry Gregg but merely to remind anyone who doesn't know that England owes a MacGregor 'The Gregorach' or a 'Child of the Mist' a small thank you vis-a-vis Sir Bobby Charlton. I am an Australian with mixed DNA. Some of it is inherited from Irish Gregg's who came to Ulster centuries ago because of religious persecution....all I can say is I am really proud to be a Gregorach. The saving of the life of Sir Bobby is proof enough to anyone who would ask.

His profile should be on Open Privacy now that he died. He is a Notable.

Definitely, though he died less than 24 hours ago a little more time might be needed to make the needed changes
Doesn't have to be Open.  Anyway, I'm going to give it a week to show respect.  Just because he's a Notable doesn't mean he doesn't have to conform to the 100/150 rule.  Unless it says so somewhere?

His profile is visible; it's just that folk can't edit it just yet.

According to the Notables Project (How to create a Notable Profile/Detail/Point 9)

All deceased Notables and their deceased family members should have their privacy level set to "Open".

so Bobby Charlton should be Open.

It doesn't say when, though. In general on this Help:Recently Deceased Strangers says:

How long has it been since the person's passing? If a person died within the past few years family members may still be grieving and could be extraordinarily sensitive.

For a notable, a week's respect as Ros proposes, rather than several years, seems a generous compromise.
