OK - thanks again for all your help.
One question on the military side of things: Is there any way to determine how long Andrew actually stayed at Lookout Point? I'm intrigued by the whole "parole and exchange" aspect of prisoners of war in the civil war. Would prisoners who were captured at Vicksburg and "immediately paroled" have actually gone to Lookout Point? Would they have gone back into active service after their interment, or have gone home?
Here is some info from 61st Tennessee Infantry Regiment – Tennessee & the Civil War (tngenweb.org) which might help:
"...regiment was surrendered on July 4, 1863, as part of Major General M. L. Smith’s Division. Although almost immediately paroled, the men captured at Vicksburg were not declared exchanged until June 27, 1864, and some of those captured at Big Black were not released until the spring of 1865."
I also wonder whether it is accurate to cite Andrew Carr's unit as the "Mounted" Infantry if he was actually captured at Vicksburg and spent time in Lookout Point. It seems that the 61st regiment didn't become "mounted" until afterwards. Here is another quote:
"In the meantime, General Vaughn had been given command of Colonel A. W. Reynolds’ Brigade, which was mounted in December, 1863, and served the remainder of the war as mounted infantry. When the men of the 62nd who had been captured at Vicksburg were finally declared exchanged, they were assigned to this brigade and mounted. "
